Follow the steps below for a quick overview of connecting medication orders to barcodes and administering medications with barcode scanning.

Please note: for residents using an integrated pharmacy with August Health, barcodes are automatically linked through the pharmacy integration. Manual barcode linking is only required for residents who are profiled and use outside pharmacies or over-the-counter medications.

Step 1:

Navigate to the Medications tab in the resident’s chart.

Step 2:

Hover over the medication you want to link the barcode to and select "Edit." Confirm the medication is approved, as barcodes can only be linked to approved orders.

Step 3:

Scroll to the bottom and click the pencil icon in the Barcodes section.

Step 4:

In the top right of the barcode box, click "Link Barcode."

Step 5:

Confirm you’re linking the correct medication, then scan the barcode. Once scanned, the number will appear in this box, and select the link barcode to complete

Step 6:

Once linked, you’ll be able to see the barcode’s historical information in the barcode section of the medication order.

Deleting a linked barcode number.

If a barcode needs to be removed or was added incorrectly, you can delete it by clicking the trash icon to the right of the number.
