Replacing An Existing Medication Order

How to replace an existing order to resolve a possible duplicate order

Written by Courtney Rule

This article covers how to replace an existing medication order during the order matching process, review the pending changes between the old and new orders, make any necessary edits before approval, and confirm that the updated order appears correctly on the resident's medication list.

Step 1:

Within the "Match Orders" screen, select "Replace an existing order".

Step 2:

Select the medication order you want to replace. Then select "Replace Selected Order."

Step 4:

An "Update Order screen" will appear for review.

Step 5:

Within the "Pending Changes" section, the "Old" information will reference the order that is being discontinued, and the "New" information will reference the new order.

If there are any changes that need to be applied, select the "Pencil" icon to edit the desired details before approving the medication order.

Step 6:

Select “Approve”. Then the medication order will be listed in the “Medication” tab with a “New” tag indicating this is now an active order on the resident's MAR.

The "New" tag will be indicated on a new order for 7 days.
