eMAR: How to document a med as given

How to mark a med as done or document a medication given to a resident

Written by Rudi Jones

To document that a medication has been given to a resident, follow these steps in this video or scroll down for written instructions with screenshots if you prefer!

Written instructions:
Step 1:
Navigate to the eMAR tab at the bottom of the left menu.

Step 2:
Once you're in eMAR, make sure you are in the "Pass Meds" tab, then select the resident to whom you need to give the medication.

Step 3:

On the resident's page, find the medication you are giving and then click "Mark as Done." You will see a green check mark indicating that the medication was given.

The green check mark confirms that the medication has been successfully documented in the system.

Step 4:

Once all necessary medications have been given to the resident and marked as done, you can click the button on the bottom right to confirm the med pass.

Note: If there are medications that still need to be administered later in the shift, do not confirm the med pass. Instead, exit the screen to leave the med pass open. This allows for additional medications to be administered as needed. The med pass can be confirmed once all meds are given or exceptions are determined.

Please note that any medication left undone or not given will need a reason for exception, which can be noted when confirming the medication pass. If a med pass is confirmed prematurely and there are still medications to be administered, you can reopen the med pass. This option ensures that the next person can continue administering medications.
