Our Slimline Bed Base is the perfect, sturdy foundation for our mattresses. It's 12cm thick with 18cm legs, which makes it practical - you can store stuff underneath, and it fits through most doorways easily.
What is the bed base made from?
Solid pine.
Is the bed base made in Australia?
Yes.
Can the bed base be disassembled?
No. The legs can be removed, but the base itself can't be taken apart. Most sizes (Queen, Double, King single, Single) are a single piece, but the King size is 2 pieces. It is split down the middle, so we can actually get it through your door. Almost all king size ensemble bases are made this way.
What bed base do you recommend?
A solid, flat foundation is best. Slatted bases are ok as long as the slats are no more than 15cm apart to provide adequate support. Most importantly, if the slats flex/bend, they're not good! Move on to the next one.
Can the mattresses be used on an adjustable bed base?
Yeah, they work great on adjustable bases! The pocket springs and latex layers flex nicely with adjustable bed bases.
Do you sell headboards with your bed base?
We don't sell a bed base with a headboard. If you're after a bed base with a headboard, you can check out Quokka.
Do you recommend Quokka bed frames?
At Ausbeds, we deliver on average 3 mattresses per day. We frequently come across Quokka bed bases, which are made in Perth. These guys have been at it for more than 35 years. They make them in Australia with timber that hasn't been engineered or processed. 70% of issues we see are with flexible slats.
What about the Sleeping Duck Indestruct Bed?
Sleeping Duck have a rock-solid frame. And it looks pretty solid overall. However, I had a customer who said that the engineered wood on the sleeping duck bed base was actually dipping after a few years of use. Totally anecdotal, and I don't want to trash any brands as it's not my intention. What this customer said, though, does fit with one of my many rules of thumb. My rule of thumb for bases is: "No engineered wood, (plywood). It'll dip over time. Only get pine slats."
