Step 1: Download & Install BlackHole Software

Step 1: Download & Install BlackHole Software
Click here to download BlackHole- don't worry, it won't send you into a black hole! π
Once the file has been downloaded, open the file by clicking at the bottom of your browser to launch the application installation.
Then go through all the steps to complete the installation β
Once BlackHole has been successfully installed, BlackHole 2ch will be automatically added as an option for an output device.
Step 2: Configure Sound Settings
Open System Preferences > Sound. Click on Output and select BlackHole 2ch
β οΈ NOTE: There will be no sound coming out of your computer at all. If you still want to be able to hear through Bluetooth headphones or hearing aids, watch below.
Optional: Configure Multi-Output Device
To be able to hear through Bluetooth headphones or hearing aids, you will have to set-up a Mult-Output Device. Watch the video below to learn how!
Step 3: Open Ava Web/Desktop
After changing the audio settings, open Ava Web/Desktop and start a conversation by clicking on "Start Captions Now" or joining a room.
Once you're on the conversation page, navigate to the side menu, and change the π microphone source to BlackHole 2ch (virtual)
Start playing your online video or podcast and watch Ava caption away!
π‘ NOTE: If you are using Ava to caption a Zoom or Google Meet meeting, make sure that the audio source is configured correctly. You can learn how to do that here.
