Step 1: Install & Sign Into Ava CC

Click here to download and install Ava CC

Once you've downloaded Ava CC, sign in using the method you used to sign up.

⭐️ IMPORTANT: If you have a previous version of Ava CC and Blackhole installed, make sure to uninstall Blackhole before installing the new version of Ava.

Step 2: Start a captioning session

Once you've logged in, click on "Start Captions Now." By default, Ava will start a session in CC mode (floating black box):

Step 3: Configure Sound Settings

🔊 You want sound to play out loud

You don't need to do anything!

The audio settings will automatically default to allow sound to play from your speakers while captioning.

  • In Ava, it will automatically set to "Ava Mic."

    This allows Ava to "listen" to the sound coming from the computer (such as YouTube or Zoom) and the sound coming from your microphone (as in the things you are saying

We're always making updates to enhance your captioning experience! Soon, you'll be able to change the computer audio volume so sound doesn't have to play out loud!

Step 4: Configure Zoom/Conference Call Settings

For Zoom

1. Start the Zoom meeting

2. Once you are in the meeting, click on the ^ icon next to where it says Mute. Change the settings to where you want the sound to go in/out.

🎙 Microphone: this should be set to either your Bluetooth headset or computer's microphone (if you want to speak)

🔊 Speaker: this should be set to Ava Speaker

For Google Meet

1. Start the meeting on Google Meet

2. In the bottom right corner, click on the 3 dots (bottom right-hand corner) > Settings

3. Under Audio, change the settings to the following:

🎙 Microphone: this should be set to either your Bluetooth headset or computer's microphone (if you want to speak)

🔊 Speaker: this should be set to Ava Speaker

Step 5: Watch Ava CC caption away!

Once the settings are configured, make sure the mic is on (shows blue) and watch Ava CC caption away!
