Your phone can help save your life in an emergency. iOS and Android phones have features to make your critical health information accessible from your lock screen, without needing your credentials. First responders and other health professionals will often check for this, so make sure to set it up on your phone and keep it up-to-date. Both platforms also include a good place to add your Backpack Health Emergency Share Card URL + Access Code – that way, emergency personnel can view your important files, images, and medical documents even if you aren’t able to provide them yourself.

iPhone: Medical ID

The Health App on your iPhone has a Medical ID feature to make your critical health information accessible from your lock screen (without requiring your passcode).

To add your Share Card URL and Access Code to your Medical ID:

  1. Open the Health App that came on your iPhone.

  2. Tap “Medical ID” on the bottom right.

  3. Tap "Create Medical ID" or tap Edit.

  4. You’ll see a field labeled “Medical Notes” – tap it to add your Backpack Health Emergency Share Card URL and Access Code.

  5. Make sure to include your other vital information, and that the toggle at the top is set to “Show When Locked.”

  6. Tap Done.

Once it’s set up, you can view your Medical ID by going to your lock screen, tapping Emergency, and then tapping Medical ID. It will also be available on your connected Apple Watch if you have one, too.

Android: Emergency Information

Your Android phone has an Emergency Information feature to make your critical health information accessible from your lock screen.

To add your Share Card URL and Access Code to your Emergency Information:

  1. Open the Emergency Information feature on your phone (you can either get to this directly from your Contacts list by editing your own contact, or from your Settings app, depending on your Android device).

  2. You’ll see a field labeled “Other” – tap it to add your Backpack Health Emergency Share Card URL and Access Code.

  3. Make sure to include your other vital information.

  4. Tap Save.

Once it’s set up, you can view your Emergency Information by going to your lock screen and tapping Emergency.
