When it comes to security and privacy, we’ve got your back.
Many people are concerned about the security and privacy of their data these days. We are too. That’s why from the moment you start using Backpack Health, we handle your data like we would our own. Information that’s stored on your phone is protected from other people and other apps by your phone’s passcode or TouchID, and information stored in the cloud is encrypted in our database as well as when it’s in transit over the internet. We also undergo regular, independent security tests of our systems to ensure that your data is secure. And you can do your part to keep your data extra safe on all of your devices with added features like two-factor authentication.
You’re in control of where your personally identifiable data goes.
Rest assured – we’ll never share your personally identifying information (name, date of birth, social security number, address, etc.). Only you can do that. When you do want to share your personal health info with the ones who need it, we make it easy to add health details to your Share Cards or invite another user to co-manage a profile with you. You get to decide who sees what when it comes to your personal health information. You can also choose to delete your Backpack Health account at any time.
You’re making a difference with your data while still keeping it private.
When you sign up for Backpack Health, you are agreeing to share your information anonymously to contribute to research. The data you enter in Backpack is de-identified (meaning, not linked to you) in a rigorous process so that it can be used in aggregate for research. When we do this we make sure that no information that could identify you ever gets shared. So, you can contribute to advancing care and helping others without compromising your security or privacy.
You own your health information – we’ll help you manage it
We’re not an electronic health record system or a medical provider. Backpack Health is different because it’s your tool, for your info. Sometimes we get asked if we are we HIPAA compliant. HIPAA applies to “covered entities” (that is health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers who electronically transmit any health information). Backpack Health is not one of these entities. We’re a place for you to store your health information in a way that makes the most sense to you and share it with the ones who need it.
Even though we aren’t required to be HIPAA compliant, we still meet all of the security and privacy standards for HIPAA entities.
