In this article, you will learn how to configure default CPT codes on exam templates so that billing codes are automatically populated when a provider creates an exam using that template.
1. Open an Exam Template
Navigate to Exam > Exam Settings > Exam Templates.
Click the template you want to configure, or click New Template to create one.
2. Add Default Procedure (CPT Codes)
In the template editor, locate the Default Procedure section.
Click in the Search procedures to add field to see a list of procedures and enter or search for the CPT code to associate with this template.
Add additional codes as needed for the typical encounter type.
Click Save to apply the default procedure codes to the template.
3. Use the Template on an Exam
When creating a new exam, select the configured template.
Barti will auto-populate the Procedure codes from the template into the exam's billing fields.
Review the pre-filled codes and make any adjustments before saving the encounter.
If you have any questions, please refer to Barti's Help Center or create a support ticket at support.barti.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I set different Procedure defaults for different exam types? Yes. Each exam template can have its own set of default CPT codes, allowing you to tailor billing defaults per encounter type (e.g., routine exam, contact lens fitting, medical visit).
Will default Procedures codes be added to existing exams? No. Default Procedure codes only apply when a new exam is created using the template. Existing exams are not affected.
Can providers override the default codes? Yes. Default Procedure codes are editable on each individual exam. Providers can add, modify, or remove codes as needed before finalizing the encounter.
