In this article, you will learn how to use Quinn, Barti's AI-powered exam scribe, to automatically transcribe and structure clinical notes during patient encounters.

Quinn current support the following fields and actions in the Exam.

  • Chief Complaint

  • Manifest Refraction

  • IOP

  • Anterior Segment

  • Posterior Segment

  • Dilation

  • Confrontation Visual Fields

  • Assessment and Plan > Autocode Button

1. Access Quinn During an Exam

• Open a patient record and navigate to an Exam.
• Confirm your microphone is connected and accessible before starting.

2. Start and End a Quinn Recording Session

  • Press the microphone icon next to Transcribe, or press Ctrl+B (Windows) / Cmd+B (Mac) to begin recording.

  • Quinn will start listening and transcribing the encounter in real time.

  • Conduct the exam as you normally would. Speak naturally — Quinn captures the conversation and structures it into Chief Complaint, Manifest Refraction, IOP, Anterior Segment, Posterior Segment, Dilation and CVF fields.

  • Quinn will navigate to the section being filled out and highlight updated fields, along with a chime to indicate updates have been made.

  • Say "Code for me" or "Autocode" to have Quinn run the Autocode process to pull in DX into the Assessment and Plan section.

  • To stop recording, press the microphone icon again or press Ctrl+B (Windows) / Cmd+B (Mac).

Important Note: If you navigate away from the exam tab while Quinn is recording, the microphone will automatically stop. Return to the exam tab and press the microphone icon to restart the recording session.

Verify that your microphone is connected and that your browser has been granted microphone access. If the issue persists, refresh the page and try again or contact support.

Can I use Quinn on any exam type?
Quinn is available within the standard Exam view. If you do not see the option or the keyboard shortcut does not respond, confirm with your administrator that Quinn is enabled for your organization.

Will Quinn replace manual note entry?
Quinn supplements documentation — it auto-populates fields from the transcription, but providers should always review and edit notes before saving.

What happens if I switch tabs while Quinn is recording?
Quinn's microphone automatically stops when the exam tab loses focus. This prevents accidental recording across multiple open exams. Return to the exam tab and restart the session when ready.
