In this article, you will learn how Barti's medications database is used during exams and prescribing, and what the recent database update means for your practice.
Where the Medications Database Is Used
The medications database provides suggestions in the following areas:
Medication History (Exam) — When adding or searching for medications in the Medication History section of a patient's Exam, results are pulled from the medications database.
Electronic Prescribing — When writing new prescriptions, drug name search and active ingredient lookup use the same database.
What Changed
The underlying drug reference data has been refreshed with the latest available information. This update includes:
More complete and current drug names
Updated active ingredient associations
Improved strength and formulation data
No changes to the user interface or workflow are required. Medication search works the same way — the results are simply more accurate and up to date.
How to Search for Medications
Open a patient's Exam and navigate to the Medication History section.
Begin typing the medication name or active ingredient in the search field.
Select the correct medication from the autocomplete suggestions.
Add frequency and notes as needed, then save.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to update any existing medication records?
No. The database update affects new searches only. Existing medication entries on patient records are not changed.
What if I cannot find a specific medication in the search results?
If a medication does not appear in the search results, you can type the name manually. If you believe a commonly used medication is missing, contact support so it can be reviewed for inclusion.
Does this affect the electronic prescribing workflow?
Yes — electronic prescribing uses the same medications database, so drug name search and active ingredient lookup will also reflect the updated data.
