Who this is for: Front desk and checkout staff at Barti RCM practices.
Before you start, you'll need:
The patient's visit invoiced in Barti
The correct insurance plan on file in the patient's profile
Steps
Open the patient's invoice in Barti.
Locate the Insurance Responsibility field. By default it will read No amount owed by insurance.
Set the insurance responsibility amount for the visit.
Once insurance responsibility is set, a Create Claim button will appear directly on the invoice. Click it.
If the patient has no insurance on file, Barti will prompt you to Add Insurance. Add it to their profile, then return to the invoice to create the claim.
After creating the claim, set its status to Hold to hand it off to the RCM team for processing.
What you'll see when it works
The claim is created and appears in the claims table with a status of Hold. The RCM team will pick it up for review and submission within 2 business days.
Troubleshooting
Why shouldn't I create claims from the main Claims table?
Creating a claim from the Claims table instead of the invoice can break the link between the claim and its associated services and payments, causing processing errors. Always use the invoice.
The Create Claim button isn't appearing on the invoice.
The button only appears after you've set an insurance responsibility amount on the invoice. Confirm the Insurance Responsibility field has been updated from its default value.
The patient's insurance isn't on file yet.
Barti will prompt you to Add Insurance when you try to create the claim. Add it to the patient's profile and return to the invoice to proceed.
