Create and submit a claim

  1. Open the patient's Invoice.

  2. Set the Insurance Responsibility field. If the patient's insurance isn't on file yet, add it before continuing.

  3. Once insurance responsibility is set and Insurance Owed is greater than $0, a Create an Insurance Claim button will appear on the invoice under the Insurance Claims section. Click it to start the claim.

  4. In the new window, choose the Primary and/or Secondary Insurance. Then click Create Claim. This will create a draft only.

  5. Review the draft claim and confirm the following are correct:

    • Billing provider info and PH#

    • Rendering Provider

    • Patient information and insurance details (especially Payer ID)

    • Diagnosis codes (ICD-10)

    • Procedure codes (CPT)

    • If submitting a Medicare claim, make sure you toggle on the Referring Provider section and fill out accordingly.

  6. Click Save & Hold. The claim is saved but not yet submitted.

  7. Reopen the claim by following Insurance > Claims.

  8. In the top right corner, Click Submit Claim to send it to Trizetto for processing.

What you'll see when it works

The claim is transmitted to Trizetto and will have a status of PENDING. The Status will automatically update as Trizetto processes the claim.

Troubleshooting

My claim was rejected — what do I do?

Rejection reasons are visible directly inside the claim in Barti. Corrections must be made in TriZetto using the Correct/Resubmit Claim option. See Why was my claim rejected? for common rejection reasons and how to resolve them.

I don't see a way to submit claims in Barti.

Claims submission requires a TriZetto account to be linked to Barti first. This is an admin-only setup step. See How do I link my TriZetto account to Barti? to get started.

Can I void or resubmit a claim after it's been sent?

Rejected claims can be corrected and resubmitted directly in TriZetto using the Correct/Resubmit Claim option. Claims with an Error status — meaning the transmission to TriZetto failed — can be resubmitted directly in Barti without creating a new claim. Only claims in Draft or Hold status can be deleted.
