Who this is for: All Barti users who manage claims for patients with both primary and secondary insurance coverage.
Before you start, you'll need:
Both the primary and secondary insurance plans entered on the patient's profile
The primary claim submitted and payment posted in Barti
Steps
1. Include both payers when creating the claim
When creating the initial claim from an invoice, select both the primary and secondary insurance plans. This is required — if you don't include the secondary payer at this stage, the balance will not automatically transfer after the primary pays.

2. Post the primary payment
Once the primary payer's payment comes in, post it through Mass Payment Posting as usual. See How do I post insurance payments in Barti? for steps.
3. Submit the secondary claim
After the primary payment is posted, the remaining balance automatically transfers to the secondary insurance. Secondary claims can then be submitted through TriZetto.
[VERIFY: Does the secondary claim require a manual submission step in Barti, or does it submit automatically once the primary is posted? Confirm the exact action needed.]
What you'll see when it works
The remaining balance appears under the secondary insurance on the invoice. The secondary claim is visible in Insurance → Claims and can be submitted to TriZetto once the primary payment is posted.
Troubleshooting
I forgot to add the secondary insurance when I created the claim. What do I do?
Leave the primary balance open — do not adjust it. Once the secondary payment comes in, you can post it manually against the open balance. There is no transfer button.
How do I handle Medicare with a secondary supplement?
Post the Medicare payment first through Mass Payment Posting, leaving the remaining balance open on the claim rather than adjusting it. Then create the secondary claim from the invoice. Do not write off the balance before the secondary pays, as this will send the secondary claim into a negative balance.

Can I send secondary claims through TriZetto?
Yes. Secondary claims can be submitted through TriZetto using the secondary claims filing tool. For directions, see the help documentation section of TriZetto or call TriZetto support at 800-556-2231.
