How do I get started with ePrescribe in Barti?

ePrescribe lets you send prescriptions electronically to a patient's pharmacy of choice. It's included in Barti Premium and requires one-time setup by Barti CS before you can prescribe.

Who this is for: Optometrists and prescribing providers on a Barti Premium plan. Setup steps require Barti CS — contact support to get started.

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A Barti Premium plan (ePrescribe is included)

  • Your NPI (Type 1), state license number, and date of birth on file

  • Barti CS to activate ePrescribe at the org and provider level — email support@barti.com if it hasn't been set up yet

How ePrescribe works

Once activated, ePrescribe lets you:

  • Send prescriptions directly to a patient's pharmacy from inside Barti

  • Search for pharmacies by the patient's address on file or by zip code

  • View a patient's prescription history within the Surescripts network

  • See formulary information, medication alternatives, and prior authorization requirements before prescribing

  • Save frequently prescribed medications as favorites

  • Receive notifications for failed prescriptions, pharmacy change requests, and refill requests

ePrescribe is powered by Dosespot and routes prescriptions through the Surescripts network. Prescriptions sent outside of Surescripts — through another platform, for example — won't be visible in Barti's prescription history.

Note: ePrescribe does not support controlled medications at this time.

What you'll need on each patient's profile

Before you can send a prescription, the following fields must be filled out on the patient's profile:

  • First name and last name

  • Date of birth

  • Sex

  • Primary phone and phone type

  • Address (street, city, state, and zip code)

  • Height and weight (required only for minor patients)

What you'll see during setup

Barti CS activates ePrescribe at both the organization and provider level. As that process moves forward, you may see one of the following states when you open the prescription page:

  • Not activated — ePrescribe hasn't been turned on for your clinic yet. Contact support@barti.com.

  • Pending Dosespot approval — Your registration is in progress. Dosespot reviews provider registrations manually, so this may take a short time.

  • Approved — accept required — Dosespot has approved your account. You'll need to accept the terms before your first use.

  • Ready to prescribe — Setup is complete. You can send prescriptions.

Which providers and locations can I prescribe under?

ePrescribe is activated one provider at a time, so the prescription page only shows providers who have already been set up:

  • Only providers Barti CS has activated for ePrescribe appear as prescribers. A provider who hasn't been activated yet won't show up, even if they're already in Barti.

  • The location shown is the provider's main location, set when ePrescribe is enabled for that provider.

  • To add another provider so they can prescribe, that provider may first need to be added to your Barti plan. Contact support@barti.com or your account representative to have them added and activated.

Troubleshooting

Why do I only see one location and no other providers in the prescription section?

The prescription section only lists providers who have been activated for ePrescribe, and it shows that provider's main location — the one set when ePrescribe was enabled for them. If a provider is missing, they most likely haven't been activated yet. To add a provider, contact support@barti.com; additional providers may need to be added to your Barti plan before they can be activated.

Why is my registration stuck at "pending"?

Dosespot registration requires your date of birth (in your Barti account profile), state license number, and Type 1 NPI. If any of these are missing or haven't been verified by Barti CS, registration won't move forward. Contact support@barti.com to confirm your information is complete.

You also need to open the prescription page at least once — registration won't advance until you do.

Can I prescribe controlled medications?

Not at this time. ePrescribe supports non-controlled medications only.

Can a staff member send a prescription on my behalf?

No. Only providers with an NPI can send prescriptions through ePrescribe.

Can I print a prescription instead of sending it electronically?

Yes. Open the prescription, then go to Actions → Reprint Prescription to print. You can also select Approve and Print if you prefer not to send it electronically.
