Setting the right bids and budget in Baton controls your costs, keeps you competitive for the referrals you want, and helps ensure you’re only paying for the jobs that make sense for your business.

We encourage you to work closely with your Account Manager before making adjustments — our current client tools don’t yet provide full insight into how changes will impact your volume, cost, and quality. If you’re unsure, email support@batonleads.com.

What Is a Bid? 🏷️

A bid is the amount you’re willing to pay for a qualified referral that matches your selected service type(s) and service area(s).

You’ll set:

  • Default Bid: Your base amount for referrals that meet your general criteria.

  • Custom Bids: Overrides for specific ZIP codes, service types, or combinations where you want to pay more (or less).

Example:

  • Default bid: $50 for general pest control

  • Custom bid: $100 for commercial termite jobs in Atlanta

  • Custom bid: $30 for wildlife removal in rural ZIPs

Tip: Ultra-targeted bidding can keep you competitive in high-value areas without overspending where your ROI is lower.

What Is a Budget? 🧮

Your budget is a cap on your net spend over a given period.

Net spend = Total referral charges – Credits earned (from valid disputes or referrals you’ve sent).

You can set:

  • Monthly budget – resets on the same date each month

  • Weekly budget – resets every 7 days

  • Daily budget - resets every 24 hours

Example:

  • If you spend $2,500 in referral fees and earn $1,000 in credits in the same month, your net spend is $1,500.

  • If your monthly budget is $1,500, referrals will pause until the next cycle (unless you raise your budget or generate additional credits by referring leads).

Managing Your Bids and Budget

We recommend making adjustments with guidance from your Account Manager to:

  • Avoid overbidding in low-value areas

  • Stay competitive in high-value ZIPs

  • Balance your referral volume with your budget

If you do make changes yourself:

  1. Go to My Company > Service Areas to update bids.

  2. Go to Payments > Configuration to update your budget.

  3. Keep an eye on your net spend in your dashboard to avoid hitting your cap earlier than planned.

For Preloaded Billing Accounts

If you’re on a preload model (like most companies), we recharge your account automatically when your balance drops below a set threshold (commonly $200). You can still set a budget to control your total spend for the month or week.

To adjust your preload threshold, contact your Account Manager.
