Referring Moving Customers Through Baton

Learn how to refer moving customers through Baton using CRM triggers, forms, or batch email, and earn referral credit.

When a current customer moves outside your service area, it doesn’t have to be the end of the relationship — or the value they bring.

Through Baton, you can refer moving customers to a vetted provider in their new area and earn referral credit when the referral is accepted and billed.


Why Moving Referrals Matter 🚚

Moving customers are often:

  • Already loyal to your brand and trust your recommendation

  • In immediate need of service at their new home

  • Highly likely to convert when referred to a trusted provider

Step 1: Identify the Move 📬

When a customer calls to cancel due to relocation, collect:

  • New city and state (ZIP code if possible)

  • Move date (or general timeline)

  • Property type (single-family, apartment, etc. — optional)

Step 2: Get Consent and Explain the Referral 👍

Here’s a retention agent script you can use:

I’m sorry we won’t be serving your new home, but we work with a trusted partner network through Baton. If you’d like, I can connect you to a reputable provider in your new area so you don’t have to start from scratch looking for service. Can I share your info with them so they can reach out?


Once they say yes, proceed to submission.

Step 3: Submit the Referral 📤

You have three options:

A) Batch Email from CRM

  • Create a specific cancel reason in your CRM, e.g., “Moved – Baton”

  • Tag customers with that reason to signal consent has been given

  • Export the list weekly and email it to team@batonleads.com

  • Include destination city/state, move date, and property type when possible

B) Use the Baton Referral Form

  • The form link is the same for all companies and is located in the Submit a Referral page of your Baton dashboard

  • Enter the customer’s details directly into the form

  • Baton matches them to the right provider based on their new location and service needs

C) Automate via CRM Trigger

  • Set your CRM to send an automated email to new@batonleads.com whenever “Moved – Baton” (or similar) is selected as a cancel reason

  • Include customer contact info, move details, and current subscription/service type

Step 4: Baton’s Role 👤

Once submitted:

  • Baton verifies the referral details

  • Matches the customer to a vetted partner in their new area

  • Sends the referral directly to that partner

Step 5: Earn Referral Credit 💵

If the receiving company accepts and is billed for the referral:

  • 50% of their bid amount is issued to you as referral credit

  • Credits can be rolled forward to cover referrals you receive or taken as a payout if your balance is positive


Tip: Train your customer service team to use the script and process every time a customer cancels due to moving — these are some of the highest-converting, easiest-to-refer opportunities on Baton.
