If you are having your Form I-485 (green card application) filed for you and your dependents (if any), each of you will need to have a medical exam done. Medicals can take 1-2 weeks to obtain so you must get your medical exam done as soon as your team instructs you.

The medical exam form (Form I-693) needs to be completed by a licensed civil surgeon. To find your nearest USCIS-approved physician (civil surgeon), please call 1-800-375-5283 or search for the office nearest you at https://www.uscis.gov/tools/find-a-civil-surgeon.

In order to save costs, make sure that you:

  • have a copy of the previous medical exam results (if you have previously done medical exam for I-485) + any vaccinations you received since then;

  • have records for any vaccinations received previously outside of the US with English translation, to prevent you from having to get the same vaccines again and to save the costs;

  • call multiple civil surgeons to see what their overall price is, since it might differ significantly;

  • ask for a discount, if you go to the same place as last medical exam for I-485;

  • ask for a discount, if you have multiple family members doing the medical exam at the same time;

  • look into getting some vaccinations, such as flu vaccine before the medical at CVS/Walmart or elsewhere as many vaccines are free/cheaper there than at the civil surgeon’s office;

  • search online for coupons/discounts for vaccinations;

  • check with your health insurance provider (if you have health insurance in US), as some of the vaccinations or even the whole medical exam costs might be covered by your health insurance.

Once you receive the medical exam results, make sure that each sealed envelope has name of the respective applicant written on it. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE WITH MEDICAL RESULTS.

We will provide you with an address where to send the envelope as well as other necessary documents (if any) once we start your adjustment of status case.
