When should I start work?

It is important that you start work soon after receiving your EAD / GC / visa approval (whichever comes first).

For AOS clients, you should start work within 2 months, and for Consular clients, you should move to the US within 2 months and then start work within 2 months (total of 4 months).

Client Services will not give you an exact start date until the end of your resettlement because you must have all your Checklist items complete before we schedule orientation with your sponsor (housing, transportation, etc.) However, it's important that you complete your resettlement as soon as possible.

This 2-mth/4-mth timeline is a requirement that BDV and our sponsors make of all our clients. If, for some reason, you have an extenuating circumstance that requires you to start work later than this timeline, you will need to have it approved by Client Services. Otherwise, you could face negative consequences, such as the I-140 being revoked by the sponsor and losing your Green Card. We do not want this to happen for you, so we suggest that you make plans to start work within this timeline.
