Although the United States does not have an official language, English is the primary language spoken and written throughout the country. For BDV clients, developing English skills is one of the most important steps toward building a successful life and career in the U.S.
Having basic English communication skills is essential for your safety, confidence, and long-term success.
Why English skills matter
Once you receive your work authorization, you will need to demonstrate that you have conversational English competency to our Client Services Team.
Your sponsor will use English during:

In addition, English is necessary for everyday activities such as:
Renting housing
Grocery shopping
Opening bank accounts
Using public transportation
Visiting doctors or pharmacies
Being able to communicate effectively will help you feel more independent and confident as you adjust to life in the United States.
Preparation is Key!
Basic English skills will help you:
Understand instructions
Ask questions when needed
Follow safety procedures
Communicate with supervisors and coworkers
Complete daily life tasks
The earlier you begin preparing, the smoother your transition will be.
