Step-by-step instructions on how to set up your custom domain

Set up a custom community URL using your own domain in a few, easy steps!

Generate CNAME records

  1. Go to Platform Settings > Custom Domain

  2. Enter your preferred domain (i.e. community.brand.com)

  3. Click Add Domain

  4. Copy the generated CNAME records

💡 Note: Until you add the records to your DNS, the status will be Validating.


Update your DNS settings

  1. Go to your DNS settings for your domain

  2. Click Add Record

  3. Choose CNAME as the type

  4. Enter the Record Name and Value provided

  5. Repeat steps 2 to 4, depending on how many records you have

  6. Save your settings

💡 Notes: 

  • You do not have to change any nameservers in your DNS settings.

  • Validation CNAME should not be proxied.


Check if the domain is correctly redirecting

  1. Go back to Platform Settings > Custom Domain

  2. Check the status of your domain

    • Not Verified
      Waiting for CNAME records to be entered in the DNS settings

    • Failed
      Record validation failed. Please delete the domain and start over.

    • Expired
      Records have expired. Please delete the domain and start over.

    • Inactive
      Records are inactive. Please delete the domain and start over.

    • Validation Timed Out
      Record validation timed-out. Please delete the domain and start over.

    • Revoked
      Records have been revoked. Please delete the domain and start over.

    • Connected
      Successfully redirecting the community to your domain.

💡 Note: DNS propagation may take up to 24 hours.

For Namecheap and Google domains:

You may remove the root domain from the host/name since your DNS provider already automatically adds this.
