Renovations are unique, but most kitchen and bathroom projects typically takes 4 to 8 weeks to build, plus an additional 2-3 weeks for snagging (final adjustments). During your project kick-off, you'll confirm an exact timeline with your builder. Meanwhile, the following milestones offer a general guide on what to expect at each stage.
Kitchens
Builders typically allocate 6-8 weeks for the build phase of kitchen projects. This excludes a 2-3 week snagging period during which the kitchen will be practically complete and fully functional.
Below is a detailed timeline of the key milestones and what to expect at each stage.
Milestone 1: Break groundBreak ground is the official start day of construction.
1. Protection & dust control (1-2 working days) Your personal belongings and other areas of your home are protected by the builder so that work can begin.
2. Demolition and condition verification (1-2 working days) Open walls are inspected for unforeseen conditions and the location and feasibility of recessed items verified on site.

Milestone 2: First fixIf you're itching to go on holiday - this would be a great time to do it!
3. Rough-in and work inspection (8-12 working days) Behind the walls, framing, plumbing and electrical items are installed.
|
Milestone 3: Second fixThis phase may seem to progress a bit more slowly as the builder focuses on perfecting the finer details of the space.
5. Cabinetry installation (5-7 working days) Cabinets are installed which allows the countertop fabricator to confirm exact measurements.
6. Countertop fabrication and installation (7-10 working days) Countertop is fabricated and installed. Note: a lull in construction may occur while countertops are readied.
7. Finishes, installation & painting (7-10 working days) The finishes - appliances, backsplash, hardware, and plumbing accessories - are installed. Walls and ceiling painted.
|
Milestone 4: SnaggingAt this stage, the kitchen will be practically complete and fully usable. We recommend regular use to identify any issues or imperfections that may need fixing. It's common to have around 20 snagging items to address.
8. Complete Snagging (14-20 working days) Any issues are flagged by you and repaired by your builder.
9. Project sign-off Once you're completely satisfied with the results! |
Bathrooms
