If it's a workplace injury, does the group disability plan cover?

It depends on your insurer, but typically yes, most insurers who cover group short term disability or group long term disability do have an 'occupation clause' indicating if it's '24 hour coverage.'

'24 hour coverage' generally means that the claimant is eligible to apply for disability benefits even if a worker's compensation insurance plan (such as WSIB) would be the first payer.

It also applies if a group has no WSIB or worker's compensation (WC) program in place - if the group notified the insurer of no WC upon initial underwriting, and the insurer accepted the risk, it would typically be in the coverage booklet under the section titled either Short Term Disability, Weekly Indemnity, or Long Term Disability.
