The 'hire date' in employee benefits seems simple, but it is important to get it right.
The hire date is the first date worked. Therefore, it should reflect whether the employee truly arrived for active work.
The hire date, if referring to a reinstatement or a re-hire after the employee temporarily left the organization, should reflect the first date of full-time work.
The hire date should match payroll records and the employment contract.
Please input the true hire date. Avoid putting in a rough estimate or a date that fits a custom waiting period. If this date is not accurate, it could possibly impact the coverage the employee receives down the road with significant claims.
