Learn what to do if you've sent Base Chain tokens to an EVM-only wallet.
Whilst any multi-chain wallet in Best Wallet does support Base Chain, any EVM-only wallet does not.
This means if you've transferred Base Chain assets to an EVM-only wallet, you won't be able to see or manage them in the Best Wallet app. This does not mean your crypto is lost; just that you can't access or trade it in-app.
Below, we will go through the steps of how to see your cryptocurrency again!
Why EVM-only wallets don't support Base Chain
Although Base Chain is an EVM chain, due to technical restrictions, only multi-chain wallets support it. EVM-only wallets support only Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Polygon.
What this means is that if you transferred a Base Chain asset to your EVM-only wallet address, you won't be able to see that asset in your token list.
Note: This doesn’t mean your Base tokens are lost; they are still stored safely in your wallet, just on a network that isn’t currently supported in EVM-only wallets, meaning you just can't access them.
You can buy, deposit, and swap Base Chain assets in your multi-chain wallet(s).
How to access your Base tokens
To see your Base tokens, you’ll need to import that EVM-only wallet into a platform or provider that supports the Base network. You will need to find that wallet's private key in Best Wallet to import your wallet elsewhere.
Your private key is a unique code that gives you access to your wallet and its funds. You must keep your private key secure at all times.
How to access your Best Wallet's private key:
Accessing any of your wallet's private keys in Best Wallet is easy.
Go to Settings, then Manage Wallets, select the wallet, tap Private Keys, enter your passcode or unlock via your biometrics, and then copy your private key to your device's clipboard.
Note: Do not permanently store your private key somewhere on your device, as this is a major security risk and could compromise your crypto assets.
For an in-depth walkthrough on how to access and securely handle your private key, read our guide or watch our two-minute guide below:
Ensure you get the private key for the right wallet with the inaccessible Base tokens. You can then use your private key to import it into another wallet provider or platform that supports the Base network, such as Coinbase's own wallet.
Once you've imported your EVM-only wallet to another provider
By importing your wallet into an EVM wallet provider that supports Base Chain, you will now see your Base tokens. You will be able to send this token to another wallet (including your multi-chain wallet in Best Wallet) or swap it cross-chain to a cryptocurrency on a supported network in Best Wallet.
Although importing your Best Wallet is perfectly safe, make sure to handle your private key securely and only import your Best Wallet into wallet providers that you use regularly and that you trust.
Your wallet's private key is like the master key to all your crypto — if someone can access it, they can access and transfer all your crypto.
What are crypto networks?
Crypto networks, also commonly referred to as blockchains, chains, or blockchain networks, are essentially a digital infrastructure that facilitates cryptocurrency transactions. There are many different types of crypto networks, such as Ethereum, Polygon, Bitcoin, Base, and so on. Whilst some can interact seamlessly (Ethereum and Polygon), some cannot (Ethereum and Bitcoin), meaning that wallet providers often do not support all crypto networks.
Read our in-depth guide on crypto networks.
Best Wallet currently supports five major cryptocurrency networks: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Polygon, Base Chain, and BNB Smart Chain. That means you can buy, swap, hold, and send any cryptocurrency available on these supported crypto networks, but only in your multi-chain wallets.
To ensure you're transacting on the right networks, read our guide on how to check which network your crypto is on.
