Completing Form 990 for donations received through Better Giving is straightforward because Better Giving is your single grantor. Even though you receive gifts from many individual donors, your Form 990 reporting becomes easier. You still have all your donor level details. You only report the total amount granted to you by Better Giving.

Follow the steps below.

1. Open your Better Giving dashboard

  • Go to the Donations section.

  • This record contains every donation made to your nonprofit through Better Giving, including donor names, amounts, dates, and payment methods.

  • You do not need to collect this from anywhere else.

2. Download the CSV file

  • Use the Download CSV button in your Donations tab.

  • This file contains your complete donation history for the selected period.

  • For Form 990 reporting, make sure you select the full tax year you are filing for.

3. Total the donation amount for the year

  • Open the CSV in your preferred spreadsheet program.

  • Add up all the donation amounts for the tax year. This gives you the total amount Better Giving granted to your nonprofit.

4. Use that total on your Form 990

  • When completing Form 990, you will list Better Giving as the donor or grantor for the full amount.

  • You do not need to list every individual donor who contributed through Better Giving.

  • You only report Better Giving itself because all funds are granted to you by us as one aggregated source.

5. Use the following details for Better Giving

  • When Form 990 asks for the donor or grantor details, enter:

Name: Better Giving
Type: Public charity and grantmaking organization
Location: 16192 COASTAL HIGHWAY, LEWES, DE 19958
EIN: 87-3758939

That is it! Done - Your Form 990 reporting for Better Giving donations is complete.

You save time. You avoid listing hundreds of individual donors. You still keep all the donor information you need for thank you messages, stewardship, and future engagement.
