What are application templates?

Betty Blocks’ application templates are models made for creating user applications for some specific purposes. The structure and settings of such application templates are pre-defined so that a user doesn’t need to spend lots of time and effort on creating applications themselves.

An application template is a blueprint set up for you. When using it, your own fully working application is created based upon that blueprint. Each template comes as a combination of pages, models, and actions that work together in order to deliver the whole application’s functionality. Users can customize and edit various elements to their liking: add more pages, features, use a theme builder for stylization, etc.

What kind of application templates does Betty Blocks offer?

Our platform provides users with application templates that could be used for various challenges their business might face. They are assembled to handle business operations, set login flows, manage and process tasks, requests and claims and other tasks.

Using application templates

Once you open My Betty Blocks, you will see your dashboard with suggested application templates in the ‘Start building’ section. Click the ‘View all templates’ button, then choose the one you need (for example, the Ideation template). Hitting the template icon will open the template’s page in a new window. You can preview the template you’ve opened by clicking ‘Live preview’.

‘Use template’ will lead you to the next step.

In the pop-up window choose an organization from the existing ones. Then fill in an application's name. The identifier will duplicate the app’s name by default. You can change this value, but its name has to be unique. It will be displayed in the application’s URL.

After your application is created, proceed to the next step.

Application ID confuguration

Before using the application, you will need to enter a configuration value. The name you give your application needs to be set manually as the configuration enables us to see where domain emails are coming from or where the URLs need to be redirected.

Click on ‘Tools’ and then ‘Configurations’.

A new window with configurations will open and there should be an empty configuration field called ‘app_id’. This configuration is used, for example, in sending an email for the password reset option.

Click on ‘app_id’ (3) and in a slide-out panel on the right fill in the value (4) with your application’s identifier name to proceed. This is the name you gave your app combined with the sandbox name (if you are using a sandbox). Find and copy it from the URL. For example, this one is called ‘my-ideation-test-app’.

Click on the ‘Save’ button to finish configuring.

The setting explained above is basic for every application template that Betty Blocks offers. However, after this step, the configuration of each template will vary. For example, within the Ideation template, you will have to create a user account, the Dynamic questionnaire template requires creating some webusers, etc.

In case you haven’t found the template you really need, you can always leave a request. Find it at the very bottom of the Application templates overview page.
