Collect customer information during checkout

Use custom fields to collect customer information stored in their Billsby account.

During the checkout process we'll ask your customers to complete three mandatory fields - name, email and billing address. We need these as a minimum to be able to bill them successfully.

Depending on what information you'd like to collect from the customer, you can also add any additional fields while you're configuring your product, as part of the product set up.

Standard fields

We have a number of standard fields you can choose from, such as phone number and marketing consent. Once you've clicked the Add a field button, you just need to navigate to Standard fields, select the field you'd like to add using the + icon on the right hand side and choose Update fields.

Custom fields

Custom fields are designed to be flexible enough for you to be able to collect whatever information you want. For example, you could obtain marketing data by using a checkbox and asking How did you hear about us? Or you could offer a choice of complimentary gifts with each purchase by using the dropdown function. In fact, we have 6 different options for entry fields:

  1. Single line text

  2. Multi-line text

  3. Checkbox

  4. Numbers

  5. Date picker

  6. Dropdown

To add a custom field navigate to the Add a field modal and click on Create new field.

On the field creation screen you'll be able to choose the type of field from the dropdown provided. Once you've decided on the type of field, you'll just need to enter in the information, such as Field Label and Support text. For each field type the configuration is slightly different, for example, for checkboxes you'll need to enter in all the options for you customers to choose from.

You can see a preview of your custom field, that changes in real time, as you make your changes.

You can choose to make custom fields compulsory for any questions you don't want your customers to be able to skip.

Once you have created the field, you can then add it by clicking the + icon and updating the fields. Any custom fields you create for your product will now be presented to your customers if they select this product in the checkout.


What will my customers see during checkout

The best way to understand what your checkout looks like is to use the embed codes to preview your checkout. This will show you exactly what it will look like for your customers and you'll be able to test the flow while you're pre-live.
