Beginning on Friday, April 26 - 28, 2019 Techstars Startup Weekend Plymouth will take place at the beautiful Royal William Yard.

Techstars Startup weekend provides a place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

The theme is Health & Wellbeing, something that affects us all. The aim is for participants to learn and develop new ideas around the ways we address Health and Wellbeing challenges in the 21st Century.

This is a topic close to the heart of Kate Sneddon, Chief Executive Officer at Biovault. Kate spent the first ten years of her working life with pharmaceutical giant and FTSE 100 company GlaxoSmithKline, initially as a microbiologist but latterly in the areas of new product development and Lean Sigma.  On moving to the South West 10 years ago, Kate joined Biovault, and has been CEO for the last 2 years.  Kate’s experience in working in the private sector for both a large multinational and an SME provides her with insight into the opportunities and challenges for both.  Kate has recently successfully lead Biovault in securing 2 Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with University College London, and the prestigious Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Industrial Fellowship grant.

Asked why she was so keen to take part in Techstars Startup Weekend, Kate describes the challenge for talented health and wellbeing novices and professionals alike:

"Coming from a microbiological background there simply aren't that many opportunities for scientists in the Plymouth area." Says Kate, "One of the most rewarding things about my role is that I am able to give people in the south-west who share my passion for regenerative medicine an opportunity to get that first real-world experience."

"The fantastic thing about Techstars," Kate continues, "is that it gets everyone out of the labs and offices and lecture halls and into an inspirational space where anything can happen. I'm really looking forward to meeting some new people this weekend who can challenge our thinking and lead the way into healthier futures."
