MRZ (Machine Readable Zone)

The MRZ code (Machine Readable Zone) is a standardized code printed on passports and many national identity cards.

It usually appears as two or three lines of letters, numbers, and symbols at the bottom of the document.

The MRZ allows identity documents to be read and verified automatically during the verification process.

To be accepted:

  • the MRZ must be fully visible and clearly legible,

  • the document must be complete, with no edges cut off or cropped,

  • the image must be clear and in focus.

Documents where the MRZ is missing, partially visible, or unreadable cannot be accepted.
