Key Features of Custom Sections

Custom Sections allows you to define sections of products on your menu that display customizable headers, descriptions, and availability based on your choosing. This will give you more control on how you market your products to your customers across both BlackbirdGo and your website menu embed.

With Custom Sections, you can....

  • Customize the title of each section

  • Customize the description of each section

  • Customize the date range each section is visible on your menus

  • Customize the order in which sections appear

  • Customize the order in which products within each section appears

Creating Custom Menu Sections

To start creating custom menu sections, simply select the Product Management Block and then choose the Custom Sections Block. Here, you will see all of the custom menu sections previously created, as well as have the option to create a new section.

Begin by clicking the +Create Section button and then complete the form as needed:

  • The title of the section*

  • The description for the section

  • The start date and time for the section

  • The end date and time for the section

  • The published status of the section (for when you are ready to turn it on!)

  • Select the products that should be in the section

  • Arrange the order that the products should be shown within the section

Viewing, Editing, & Managing Custom Menu Sections

To view, edit, and/or manage custom menu sections, simply select the Product Management Block and then choose the Custom Sections Block. Here, you will see all of the custom menu sections previously created, as well as their section statuses.

Section Statuses

Sections have four possible statuses that should help you understand why a section may not be visible on your menu. They are:

Live - The section has been published, falls within active start/end dates, has products selected for the section, and is visible on your menus.

Draft - The section’s published toggle has not been enable within its settings, so it does not appear online.

Scheduled - The section is good to go but is not visible because the selected start date/time has not yet occurred. Setting a start date for a section is optional. Sections without start dates that are published go live immediately.

Expired - The section is good to go but is not visible because the selected end date/time has passed. Setting an end date for a section is optional. Sections without end dates that are live will remain live indefinitely.

No Inventory - The section would be visible if there was active & in-stock inventory assigned to it. Sections with no in-stock & active inventory will not be shown on menus. Adding valid inventory to the section will cause it to re-appear.

Ordering Sections

From the Custom Sections Block dashboard, you’ll be presented with your existing sections. Here, you can Drag & Drop the ordering of your existing sections to change the order they are displayed in on your menu. You can also view high level information about those sections here, edit ones they already have, and create new sections altogether.

How Custom Menu Sections Appear

All sections will display products in a single row side scroll. Products cards will display in the order defined by you in the custom section’s Arrange tab, and the sections themselves will display top to bottom in the order set on the Custom Sections Block dashboard.

Every section also gets its own dedicated URL on both BlackbirdGo and your website menu embed! This URL can direct your customers to a specific menu section, if you'd like.
