This article covers how Job Clocking works in Blackpurl and how to assign a technician to a Customer Order Service Job. You can do this from the central Job Clocking screen or directly from within the Customer Order.
Accessing the Job Clocking Screen
There are two ways to assign a technician to a service job. Option 1 uses the Job Clocking screen; Option 2 assigns the technician directly from the Customer Order.
Option 1: Assign from the Job Clocking Screen
1. In the Blackpurl header, click Service, then click Job Clocking.
2. The All Open Jobs window opens. It contains three tabs:
Service Jobs — covered in this article.
Other Tasks — covered in Other Tasks - Job Clocking On / Off (no longer available).
Manage Tasks — also covered in Other Tasks - Job Clocking On / Off (no longer available).
Understanding the All Open Jobs Screen
The All Open Jobs screen pulls its details from each Customer Order Service Job. The columns are labelled A through G below.
A — Status | Shows the current status of each Service Job line item. Statuses include: New Job, Partner Review, Serv Mgr Review, and others indicated by colour-coded badges. |
B — Customer Order / Job Type | Shows the Customer Order number and the job type (for example, Customer Pay). Click the Customer Order number to open that order directly. |
C — Customer, Unit & Job Name | Shows the customer name, the customer-owned unit, and the Service Job name. A single Customer Order can have more than one Service Job, so technicians can use this column to identify which job they need to work on. |
D — Assigned Technician | Shows which technician is assigned to the Service Job. To reassign, click the clock icon next to the current technician. If no technician has been assigned, click Assign Technician to assign one. |
E — Total Clocking Time | Shows the total job clocking time already processed for that Service Job line item (for example, 01h00min). Click the expand arrow to list each individual clocking entry. |
F — Technician Search | Filters the list to show Service Jobs for a specific technician. Technicians use this to display only their assigned jobs so they can clock on and off. |
G — Customer Order Search | Filters the list to find a specific Customer Order. |
Assigning a Technician — Example
The following example walks through assigning a technician to a specific Service Job on the All Open Jobs screen.
In this example, the Service Job has the following details:
Status is Ready to Start — the unit is on-site and ready to be worked on
Job type is Customer Pay
Customer is Blackpurl Test
Unit is Bayliner
No technician has been assigned
Click Assign Technician and then select the technician you want to assign — for example, Keith O'Brien.
Once selected, the technician's initials appear in the technician column alongside their running job clock time (starting at 00h00min), confirming the assignment.
Option 2: Assign from the Customer Order
Blackpurl also lets you assign a technician directly from the relevant Customer Order's Service Job detail view.
1. Navigate to the relevant Customer Order, open the Service Job, and scroll to the Technician time section.
2. Click Assign Technician and select the technician.
The Technician time section header lists all technicians currently assigned to that Service Job, even when the section is collapsed — so you can always see at a glance who is assigned without expanding the section.
