Part counting is one of the most time-consuming tasks at a dealership. Using a barcode scanning app on your mobile device can speed up the process significantly by letting you scan parts on the floor and export the results directly into the Blackpurl Part Count tool.

Blackpurl includes the Part Count tool, but many dealerships don't have dedicated barcode scanners. A mobile barcode scanning app can fill that gap. There are many options available — choose one you're comfortable with that supports all of the following:

Barcode scanning apps will only help your dealership if the parts you're scanning already exist in Blackpurl. Before count day, practice with your chosen app so you're fully familiar with how it works.

The following walkthrough uses Orca Scan, available from the Apple App Store, as an example. The steps will be similar for other scanning apps.

Download your chosen scanning app from the App Store or Google Play. Most apps require you to register an account before you can start scanning.

Open the app and begin scanning part barcodes one at a time. For each part, enter the count quantity. If your app supports a location field, enter the shelf or bin location as well.

Continue scanning until all parts in the area have been counted.

When you've finished scanning, export the count data from the app as a .csv file. Most apps allow you to email this file directly to yourself.

Once you've received the exported file in your email, clear the count data in the scanning app so it's ready for the next count session.

When you're ready, import the .csv file the scanning app created into the Blackpurl Part Count tool to apply the count results.
