Create and Manage Kits in Blackpurl

Learn how to create a Kit, add items to it, and control how Kit line items appear on customer-facing documents.

How to Create a New Kit

Follow these steps to create a Kit and add items to it.

1. From the Blackpurl header, navigate to Service > Kits, then click Add Kit.

2. Complete the relevant details in the New Kit window, then click Save.

Code

A short code that helps users recognise this Kit quickly.

Description

The full description of this Kit.

Can it be Split

Controls whether a user can split the Kit on a Customer Order — for example, by deleting individual items from it.

Service Kit

Indicates whether this Kit can be used on a Service Job. Enabling this reveals additional fields for Concern, Cause, Correction, and which transaction types can use this Kit.

When entering text in the Concern, Cause, or Correction fields, press Enter on your keyboard to accept the text. Any text entered in these fields can be edited once the Kit has been added to a Customer Order.

3. After saving, Blackpurl opens the Kit record so you can add items to it.

Click into the Search to Add field and search for the item you want to include — such as a labour line, part, or fee — then click the item to add it to the Kit.

4. Each item you add appears in the Kit Content area, where you can review and adjust the Qty and Price. Continue adding parts, labour lines, and fees until the Kit is complete.

Fees and parts can be added as a negative value to a Kit.

5. Once all items are added, review the pricing and quantity for each line. If a line item should be fixed — meaning the price cannot be changed when the Kit is used — mark it as fixed.

When this Kit is added to a Customer Order, all items listed in the Kit Content will automatically populate onto the Customer Order.

Once a Kit has been added to a Customer Order, you can click Break up kit to convert the Kit into individual line items. Once broken up, individual items can be deleted as needed.

How to Hide Kit Line Items on Customer-Facing Documents

Blackpurl offers two options for how Kits appear on customer-facing documents.

Option 1: Show All Kit Line Items (Default)

By default, the Kit description and a full listing of all line items with individual prices appears on all customer-facing documents for a Customer Order. The example below shows how this looks on an Invoice Preview.

Option 2: Hide All Kit Line Items

With this option enabled, the Kit appears on all Customer Order sections as normal — showing all individual items — but when you print or email customer-facing documents, only the Kit description line and total are shown, not the individual line items.

Enabling Hidden Kit Line Items

To enable this option, navigate to System Settings > Settings and Controls > Shop Settings and turn on the Hide kit details on documents toggle.

When this setting is enabled, only the Kit description and total will appear on the following customer-facing documents:

  • Customer Approvals

  • Deal documents

  • Deposit Receipt

  • Invoice Preview

  • Checkout Invoice

The setting does not apply to the following documents, which will continue to show all Kit line items:

  • Third-party claim documents

  • Parts Picklist

  • Third-party and Internal invoices

  • Service Worksheet

  • Service Job Review
