Price Levels Explained

Understand when to create custom price levels and how they give you greater control over what different customers are charged.

Price levels in Blackpurl let you define different rates for different types of customers, so users never need to manually override a price at the point of sale. This article explains the common scenarios where a new price level is needed and the benefits of setting them up.

Why Create New Price Levels?

There are several situations where charging a customer the full retail rate is not appropriate:

  • Service work performed on owned units or demo units should not be billed to an internal customer at full retail rate

  • Staff members may be entitled to a reduced rate

  • Insurance and warranty companies often do not pay at the full retail rate

  • Wholesale customers are typically not charged the full retail rate

Benefits of Using Price Levels

Setting up dedicated price levels and assigning the correct level to each customer provides two key advantages:

  • Users no longer need to manually change prices — the correct rate is applied automatically based on the customer's assigned price level, which also removes the need to give employees access to override pricing

  • You have greater control over which customers are set up with a specific pricing level, reducing the risk of pricing errors

Next Steps

To create or amend price levels in your system settings, see System Settings > Settings & Controls > Price Level - Create or Amend Price Levels (no longer available).
