Knives and accessories come in all shapes and sizes. We always recommend having a few things on hand and at the ready when the sales start coming in! Here are a few necessary items and general guidelines for shipping knives to your customers.

  • Sturdy new boxes (old or reused boxes can lose their mojo over time)

    • USPS Large, Med and Small flat rate boxes work great! If shipping with another carrier, always inspect the structural integrity of the box being used to ensure it can withstand the rigors of shipping.

    • Knife shipments in only envelopes are discouraged. Boxes offer significantly more protection in transit.

    • Boxes should have no outside stickers or branding to allude to its contents.

  • Acrylic Packing tape

    • Taping at the top and bottom doesn’t always cut it (See what we did there?!?). It’s best to tape each side of the box in all directions. Taping over edges and corners with multiple passes never hurts!

    • Painters tape and scotch tape is discouraged. These adhesives can dissolve with heat or moisture.

  • Bubble wrap or brown kraft packing paper

    • Always cushion underneath, around, and on top of items to prevent movement during transit.

    • It’s best to avoid using newspapers or any paper containing ink, as these papers can damage a knife’s finish or packaging.

  • Digital Scale

    • Correct weights can save you money!

  • USB or Thermal label printer

    • Clear label printing is important so that labels don’t get faded from sunlight or damaged from moisture in transit. If you must use a standard printed paper label, it's always a good idea to apply a layer of packing tape over the label to protect it from the elements. Delays in shipment can occur when couriers cannot read or properly scan shipment labels.
