If you have any questions, the chat icon (in the lower right) allows you to type in a question. The system will try to identify help articles that pertain to your question. In addition, one of our crew might pop on and help answer your question in real time.

Here is a quick video of pre-planning with your phone:

Some prep work if you are looking to improve your existing preplan program:

  • Pull out a few of your own preplans, from the simple to the complex

  • Digital or paper-based -- whatever you have

  • Try entering the same information into Blazemark!

If you are just getting started with preplanning:

How easy is it to create preplans?

  • Navigate to the Preplans view (you may already be there)

  • Toggle edit mode on

Edit mode toggle button image
  • Create your first simple structure preplan

  • Mimic what is in one or more of your existing preplans

How comprehensive are the preplans?

  • We have a wide breadth of data elements that can be added to a preplan

  • We are designed to support the standard for pre-incident planning (NFPA 1620)

Can I add free-form data?

  • Virtually every element allows entering of free-form notes/comments

  • The rich text fields support all manner of word processing type entry: headings, bullets, bold, italics, tables, etc.

Do you support photos, videos, or documents?

  • Virtually ever entry supports multiple images (photos, image files), videos, and documents

Can I annotate photos or images?

  • Yes, we have a very popular photo editor that allows the common edit controls for cropping, rotating, and other adjustments

  • You can add standard icons to the image (shutoffs, roof trusses, accesses)

  • You can even add your own custom icon(s)

  • You can also add arrows and free-form text

  • You can even come back later to move the icons around or otherwise edit your markups

Can I add floorplans?

  • Yes, this is one of the elements for a structure

  • There are some very clever ways you can choose to model a complex structure, BTW.

Do you use GIS and Mapping info?

  • Blazemark geocodes street addresses into lat/lons to allow for preplan data to show up on the map

  • For precise location, you can move the marker to the exact spot, and the lat/lon will be used

Can I "drill down" on the map?

  • Yes. Certain elements show up on the map by default (structures, water supplies, FDCs, staging areas).

  • Clicking on an element pulls up a small window that has links to navigate to more details

  • Some links also will provide "drive to" directions (using Google Maps)

  • Most other structure elements can optionally be added to the map view at your discretion. For example, maybe you want to show where a lock box or shutoff are located on the map.

Can I customize and tailor the content of a preplan?

  • Structure templates allow for creating consistent, repetitive types of preplans. Maybe you want to create a common pattern for the dozens or hundreds of "strip mall" shops or apartment flats in your area.

  • Templates allow for hiding designated elements from a preplan

  • Templates can be applied or removed without any loss in actual data (it simply hides the elements)

Can the view be kept simple and focused and easy to use?

  • For structures, the user can designate elements to be visible in the Quick Action Plan. If you want to see specific data, simply click the "Show More" link

  • In view mode, only fields with data show up. so there is no clutter of empty fields to waste your time on

Can preplans go from draft to review to published. and then periodically be reminded to review the preplan?

  • Preplans go through an automatic workflow -- Draft, Review, Published

  • Admins will receive notifications when a published plan is up for yearly review

  • Admins also receive notification of newly created plans, and when plans are ready for review or published

  • Admins can see a list of all preplans "in progress"

  • Authors can see a list of their plans that are "in progress"

Do you keep track of who did what (for auditing or simply curiosity)?

  • User actions are logged

  • Preplan creation and update activity is logged and shown in each preplan

  • The Author is tracked with the preplan, as are subsequent Editors

Can I import our municipal hydrant / water supply database information?

  • Yes, we have bulk import

  • Our record to date (June 2019) is 11,500+ hydrants!

Do you support a quick initial mode for response?

  • By default, the user will see a Google-like search bar

  • Entering an address or name of the preplan will allow you to jump right to an existing preplan or to land on the map and see the surrounding preplans and water supplies.

How do I add and support my users?

  • The org admin role allows multiple ways to make it easy to onboard your users

  • You can allow users in your org (via official email domain) to simply sign up

  • Or, you can bulk-invite users by entering their name and emails into a table form

How can I support multiple fire stations?

  • You can create preplans for each of your fire stations, and designate them as being a "station"

  • Each user can choose the station they consider to be their "base of operations" (under their account preferences, so it can be updated easily as crews move about to different assignments)

  • The user map views will default to being centered on the station, showing the closest preplans, for example, and defaulting the "drive to" direction links to begin at the station.

Can I support apparatus tablets/terminals?

  • Yes, org admins can create dummy users "engine71@myfd.com"

  • These users can be associated to a fire station

  • These users are typically set up as READ-ONLY

  • The user's can be set up to stay "logged in" for extremely long periods of time (the presumption being physical security is in force, such that the terminal is not available for public access)

Who created Blazemark?

  • Blazemark was created by firefighters and professional Fire Protection Engineers to serve the vital need for Pre-planning.

  • We use Blazemark for our fire houses, and as part of the professional services work we do with our corporate clients.

  • One of our principles, Greg Jakubowski, is the Chair of the NFPA 1620 Pre-Incident Planning Committee.

  • Another principle, Bart Krauss, is an expert in insurance and risk, and is a firefighter (and President of his FD)

  • One of our principles is a noted expert in the software industry (one of the creators of the extremely popular Agile software development approach), ensuring we provide a quality product to our customers at a reasonable cost

  • In addition, we have a group of trusted advisors made up of some of our more prolific "power" users, from rural northern Canada, to a multi-FD group in Michigan, to a major tire manufacturing facility in Ohio, to a 17-station fire department in Texas, to pharmaceutical and medical device giants across the USA.

We listen intently to our customers' needs.

We will listen to you as well!
