ChatGPT MCP

Connect BlazeSQL to ChatGPT and query your databases using natural language directly in the chat.

Updated this week

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants like ChatGPT connect directly to external tools and data sources. With BlazeSQL's MCP integration, you can query your databases using natural language right inside ChatGPT — no need to switch between apps.

How It Works

Once connected, BlazeSQL appears as a tool inside ChatGPT. You simply ask a question about your data in plain English, and BlazeSQL:

  1. Translates your question into SQL

  2. Runs the query against your connected database

  3. Returns the results as an interactive table directly in ChatGPT

Your data stays secure — BlazeSQL only accesses your database metadata and runs queries on your behalf using the same permissions as your BlazeSQL account.

Setting Up BlazeSQL in ChatGPT

  • A Blaze Team Advanced subscription

  • A BlazeSQL account with at least one connected database

  • A ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise subscription (MCP apps require a paid plan)

Step 1: Open the BlazeSQL App in ChatGPT

Go to chatgpt.com and start a new conversation. Click the Apps button (puzzle piece icon) and search for BlazeSQL. Click it to begin the connection process.

Step 2: Sign In to BlazeSQL

ChatGPT will open a BlazeSQL login window. Sign in with your BlazeSQL account credentials (email/password or Google sign-in). This is the same account you use at app.blazesql.com.

Step 3: Select Your Database

After signing in, you'll see a list of your connected databases. Select the one you want to query in ChatGPT, then click Connect.

Step 4: Start Querying

That's it! You can now ask ChatGPT questions about your data. For example:

  • "Show me total sales by region for last quarter"

  • "Which customers haven't placed an order in 90 days?"

  • "What's the average order value by product category?"

Results appear as interactive tables right in the chat.

Tips for Best Results

  • Be specific: Mention table or column names if you know them — e.g., "from the orders table" helps BlazeSQL find the right data faster.

  • Ask follow-ups: You can refine results naturally — "now filter that to just the US" or "sort by revenue descending."

  • Use BlazeSQL's learning feature: If BlazeSQL misinterprets a query, correct it in the BlazeSQL app and it will learn for next time. See Help Your AI Assistant Learn for details.

Switching Databases

To query a different database, disconnect and reconnect the BlazeSQL app in ChatGPT:

  1. Click the Apps button in ChatGPT

  2. Find BlazeSQL and click Disconnect

  3. Reconnect and select the new database

Troubleshooting

"Something went wrong when setting up the connection"

Try disconnecting and reconnecting. If the issue persists, make sure you're signed in to BlazeSQL and have at least one database connected in your account.

Empty or unexpected results

Check that the database you selected has tables with data. You can verify this in the BlazeSQL app at app.blazesql.com.
