Activate and deactivate 2FA (two-factor authentication)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) gives your Blockpit account additional protection: after you enter your login details, Blockpit asks for a personal 2FA code generated by a hardware or software code generator (e.g. an authenticator app). You can activate and deactivate it in the General Settings under Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

ℹ️ Good to know: To change the email address of your Blockpit account, you must activate 2FA beforehand.

How do I activate 2FA?

1️⃣ Open the General Settings (gear symbol).

2️⃣ Under Options, move the toggle for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to the right.

3️⃣ Scan the QR code with a 2FA app (e.g. Google Authenticator or Authy). Enter the code from the app in the designated field and confirm with Continue.

4️⃣ Write down the recovery code (backup) in a safe place. Tick the checkbox I have safely noted down this code and click Enable.

❗ Your recovery code is very important in case you delete your authenticator app or lose access. Please also note that each recovery code can only be used once. Losing the recovery code can lead to you being completely and irretrievably locked out of your Blockpit account!

What happens next?

▸ On every login, Blockpit automatically asks for the 2FA code after you enter your login details.

▸ Undo: You can deactivate 2FA again at any time (see below).

How do I deactivate 2FA?

There are two ways to deactivate 2FA.

Option 1, if you have access to your Blockpit account:

1️⃣ Click the user icon in the upper corner.

2️⃣ Click Settings.

3️⃣ Under Options, move the toggle for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to the left.

4️⃣ Enter your 2FA code and your password and click Disable.

Option 2, if you cannot access the 2FA app:

1️⃣ Log in with your email address and password on the login page.

2️⃣ Click I lost access to my 2FA device.

3️⃣ Enter your recovery code. This gives you access to your account and your existing 2FA is deactivated automatically. If you want to keep using 2FA, you activate it again later.

Typical mistakes

✗ Did not write down the recovery code → without the app and the code, you may be locked out permanently

✗ Trying to use a recovery code again → each code can only be used once

✗ Deleted the authenticator app or got a new phone → log in with the recovery code (option 2), then activate 2FA again

✗ Changing the email address without 2FA → the change requires activated 2FA
