Stake Transfer & DeFi Transfer: record staking and DeFi

With the labels Stake Transfer and DeFi Transfer you move staked assets or assets locked in DeFi into a sub-integration. The locked assets stay visible in your total portfolio, without creating a manual integration. Cost basis and holding period are kept.

You set the label on a transaction via the quick action or via Edit. After you save, Blockpit creates the sub-integration.

ℹ️ Do not confuse: A sub-integration (also called sub wallet for NEAR, Algorand, Solana and Sui) is not the same as an exchange subaccount, for which you create a separate integration. And it is not the same as the addresses under an xpub, which Blockpit combines in one integration.

When do I need the labels?

You need them when a transaction sends assets into staking or into a DeFi protocol and was imported without a label (an unlabeled outgoing or incoming transaction), and the position is not already part of the main integration.

ℹ️ Good to know: For NEAR, Algorand, Solana and Sui, Blockpit records staking and DeFi automatically in sub-integrations. With consensus staking, deposits, withdrawals and rewards are recorded automatically, and each DeFi protocol gets its own sub-integration. You do not need the labels there.

This applies to newly created integrations and to new entries into a staking or DeFi contract. Existing integrations where a contract is already active stay unchanged: Blockpit creates no retroactive transfers into sub-integrations, so no existing data is altered.

ℹ️ Good to know: The labels replace the older detour via a manual staking integration in many cases. How that works and when it still fits:

The labels at a glance

▸ Stake Transfer: assets go into staking but stay assigned to you. Blockpit creates the sub-integration “<Integration> - Staking”.

▸ DeFi Transfer: assets go into a DeFi protocol. Blockpit creates the sub-integration “<Integration> - DeFi”.

How to record entry and exit

1️⃣ In the web app, open Transactions and find the outgoing transaction into staking or the DeFi protocol.

2️⃣ Open the quick action of the transaction or click Edit.

3️⃣ Choose the label Stake Transfer or DeFi Transfer and save.

⚠️ Caution: Only use the label for a real transfer of your own assets. If you swap into a liquid staking token (for example ETH for stETH), that is a trade, not a stake transfer. Rewards get the label Staking or Interest, not Stake Transfer.

4️⃣ Check that the sub-integration was created and the balance is correct (see below).

5️⃣ For the exit, label the incoming transaction with the same label as the entry.

⚠️ Caution: A different label on exit (for example DeFi Transfer instead of Stake Transfer) can leave the balance stuck in the sub-integration. Use the same label for entry and exit.

Where do I find the result?

▸ Dashboard: In the Dashboard, open the Integrations tab and expand the integration. The sub-integration appears as its own sub-tab, for example Staking.

▸ Filter transactions: filter Label › Stake Transfer or DeFi Transfer, or by integration (group “Staking” or “DeFi”).

▸ Excel template: In the integration field, enter the name of the sub-integration, for example “<Integration> - Staking”.

Important exceptions

⛔ Native consensus staking with its own staking address: Blockpit already records staking through the staking address. No stake transfer needed.

⛔ Liquid staking (ETH for stETH and similar): this is a trade.

⛔ Rewards: label Staking or Interest, not Stake Transfer.

⛔ Exchanges (CEX): the labels are meant for blockchain positions.

✗ A split transaction cannot be merged again. Decide before splitting whether you really need to.

Typical mistakes

✗ Label set although the integration already records staking automatically → the position can appear twice

✗ Liquid staking labeled as Stake Transfer → a swap is treated like a transfer

✗ Rewards labeled as Stake Transfer → the income is missing from the tax report

✗ Different label on exit → the balance stays in the sub-integration

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to create a manual integration?

No. Blockpit creates the sub-integration itself after you save the label.

Why does my existing integration show no sub-integration?

For NEAR, Algorand, Solana and Sui, Blockpit does not change existing integrations where a staking or DeFi contract is already active. New entries into a contract are recorded automatically in a sub-integration. For positions that already exist, set the labels Stake Transfer and DeFi Transfer yourself. Or recreate the integration: the automatic recording then applies retroactively, including sub-integrations and stake and DeFi transfers.

⚠️ Caution: A newly created integration does not automatically take over manual edits from the old one. Check beforehand what you adjusted in the old integration.

Do the assets stay visible in my portfolio?

Yes, the locked assets still count towards your total portfolio.
