We're retiring the Lessonspace integration in TutorCruncher and moving your lessons over to Bobbin, our own lesson delivery platform. To continue running your online lessons without interruption, you’ll need to move your account across to Bobbin.
Bobbin uses the same interactive Lessonspace whiteboard you’re already familiar with, so your lessons will feel just as they do today. It also includes all the features you currently use in Lessonspace. The full version of Bobbin gives you access to AI-powered lesson planning and reporting tools, which you can upgrade to at any time directly from the billing page in your Bobbin account.
Note: All companies will be moved to Bobbin by default by November 17th.
How Bobbin integrates with TutorCruncher
You can watch this video to see what Bobbin looks like and how it connects and integrates with TutorCruncher.
What moving across does
Creates a Bobbin account for your company using your existing TutorCruncher details, so there's nothing to set up from scratch.
Adds Bobbin as an Online Integration and makes it the default for any new Jobs.
Lets you choose which Jobs move across, and in whatever order suits you - you don't have to do it all at once. Jobs you haven't moved yet carry on using Lessonspace until you switch them over.
Lets you move your Lessonspace documents into your Bobbin Library, so your existing resources come with you.
Resources come across in two parts, handled separately:
Resource type | Who moves it |
Organization-level resources | You, as an administrator, for the whole organization |
Personal resources | Each Tutor, for their own account |
Before you start
Make sure you have Administrator access in TutorCruncher.
Set aside time to do this before November 17th.
Have a look through what you actually have within Lessonspace. Most companies find a good portion is out of date and not worth carrying across.
Let your Tutors know the change is coming.
Moving your Jobs and Documents to Bobbin
Add Bobbin as an online integration
Navigate to the Bobbin card on the left-hand menu and select I want to move to Bobbin.
Your Bobbin account is created automatically and Bobbin is added as an integration on your TutorCruncher account. You don't need to set anything up yourself.
Move your Jobs
You'll land on the Jobs section first. Select the Jobs you want to move - all of them, or just some - then click Migrate selected.
The Online Integration on those Jobs changes from Lessonspace to Bobbin. You can come back and move more Jobs later, so there's no need to do everything in one go.
Move your Documents
Next, select Move my documents.
We download your documents from Lessonspace and hand them to Bobbin, which imports them into your Bobbin Library. Your folder structure is kept as it is. Anything you've trashed in Lessonspace isn't brought over.
When it's finished, you'll see a completion message and your documents will appear in your Bobbin Library. You can run this step again at any time, if you've added documents to Lessonspace since your last move.
If you head over to your Bobbin account, you will see all the documents under the Resources section.
Note: Libraries over 250 MB are too large for the export to handle in one go. If yours is, you'll see a message on the Move your documents to Bobbin page telling you so, and the automatic move won't work. Instead, download your folders from the Lessonspace dashboard in smaller batches and upload them to your Bobbin Library manually.
How Tutors can migrate their resources
Personal resources are saved by an individual Tutor on their Lessonspace account, which means you can't move those on their behalf. Each Tutor needs to do this themselves.
Please share the steps below with your Tutors so they can migrate their personal resources from Lessonspace to Bobbin.
Download resources from Lessonspace
Log in to your Lessonspace account.
Navigate to the resource library and select 'Personal'.
Click the 'Download All' button and your personal resources will be exported as a zip file, which you can import into Bobbin.
Note: Downloads are capped at 250 MB of combined file content, so if your library is larger than that, you'll need to download it in smaller batches from the Lessonspace dashboard.
Upload them into Bobbin
Navigate to Resources on the left hand menu and select 'Upload files'.
Choose the files that you wish to upload on Bobbin. You can also create folders and upload/drag your files into a specific folder.
Once uploaded, you will be able to edit, download and delete those files if you wish to. You will also be able to view any files shared with you by your organisation on Bobbin as well as within the virtual space.
What happens on November 17th?
All your Lessons will be moved across to Bobbin, and the Lessonspace integration will be retired from within TutorCruncher. You will still have access to your Lessonspace account and can keep it active if you’d like to retain access to your existing data and recordings. Whether you choose to keep your account or close it is entirely up to you.
Note: The Lesson recordings you currently have stored within Lessonspace will not be migrated to Bobbin.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch with our support team at support@tutorcruncher.com.
Terminating your Lessonspace account
If you wish to close your Lessonspace account post migration, you can do so directly via the Lessonspace dashboard. If you run into any issues, please email Lessonspace at support@thelessonspace.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why the change
Why is the Lessonspace integration being retired?
Lessonspace is being folded into Bobbin so that Bobbin becomes our single online whiteboard offering, rather than us maintaining integrations with several providers. The whiteboard itself is unchanged - Bobbin uses Lessonspace's whiteboard technology.
Do I have to move to the full version of Bobbin?
No. Migrating signs you up to the basic version of Bobbin, which gives you the same virtual Lesson and whiteboard experience without the AI features.
What's included in this version of Bobbin?
The virtual Lesson space, whiteboard, your resource library, and live Lesson attendance. It doesn't include AI generated Lesson plans or insights, Lesson or Progress reports, transcripts, or the in-person recording app.
Moving across
Does anything change in TutorCruncher?
Your Students, Jobs, and Lessons stay exactly as they are. The only change is that your Jobs point to the Bobbin online integration instead of Lessonspace.
Do I need to change my email definitions?
No. The Lesson link in your reminder emails is generated from the Job's online integration at the moment the email is sent, so once a Job is pointing to Bobbin the same reminder produces a Bobbin link with no changes on your side.
How do I move my Jobs?
Add Bobbin as an online integration, then work through the "Move your Jobs to Bobbin" page. Jobs are moved a page at a time - tick the ones you want and select Migrate selected. The page is filterable and you can come back to it as often as you like, so a large account can be moved over several sittings.
Can I move every Job in one click?
No, and this is deliberate - accounts with thousands of Jobs can't be submitted in a single request. Move them in batches instead. Moving a Job is one-way: once it's pointing to Bobbin it won't appear on the migration page again.
Does my Lesson history pull across to Bobbin?
Every future Lesson comes across, plus the last two weeks of past Lessons. Older Lessons stay in TutorCruncher but won't appear in Bobbin.
What happens to my organization's documents?
There's an automatic move on the "Move your documents to Bobbin" page. Libraries over 250 MB are too large to export in one go - if yours is, the page will tell you, and you'll need to download your folders from the Lessonspace dashboard in smaller batches and upload them to your Bobbin library manually.
What about Tutors' personal resources?
Tutors move their own personal resources from their Bobbin account. Ask them to do this before their first Bobbin Lesson.
Tutors and Students
Do Students need new Lesson links?
Existing Lessonspace links stop working once the integration is retired. Students who join from their Lesson reminder emails don't need anything sent to them - each reminder carries a freshly generated Bobbin link. Only Students who've saved or bookmarked an old Lessonspace link need a new one. This unique link can be shared directly from the Lesson in Bobbin and can be used for all Lessons within the same Course.
How do Tutors join a Lesson?
Tutors sign in to Bobbin with their TutorCruncher login details and can also move between TutorCruncher and Bobbin from their Jobs and lessons. There's no separate Bobbin account or second password to manage.
Can a Tutor share or forward their classroom link to Students?
No. A Tutor’s link is unique to them and will not sign a Student in. Anyone else who opens the Tutor’s link will be taken to the sign-in page. Students should instead use their own unique join link, which can be found on the Lesson’s main page.
Do TutorCruncher Administrators need a separate Bobbin Administrator account?
No. Administrators sign in with their TutorCruncher credentials, and can move between TutorCruncher and Bobbin from the Job and its lessons.
Can Tutors enter the Lesson space early?
Yes - Tutors can open the space ahead of time and add their resources. Within 30 minutes of the start time they'll go straight into the Lesson; earlier than that, they'll pick the Lesson from a short list first.
In the Lesson
How do I see who's in a live Lesson?
Open the Lesson in Bobbin. Live attendance shows each Student and Tutor and whether they're currently in the space.
Does the virtual space look the same as Lessonspace?
The whiteboard is the same, as it's Lessonspace's technology. Three small differences: Lessonspace's "Invite others" button is hidden, Tutors get an extra resources tab for their library, and a recording notice appears on the pre-join screen if the session is being recorded. Your dashboard is the main change - you'll use Bobbin's instead of Lessonspace's.
Do breakout rooms still work?
Yes. Breakout rooms are part of the whiteboard technology Bobbin uses, so the functionality carries over. Any rooms you'd had set up as a bespoke arrangement with Lessonspace aren't recreated automatically - check these before your first group Lesson.
Can two Lessons on the same Job run at the same time?
No. Each Job has one Lesson space, so a second Lesson on the same Job will show a waiting screen while another Lesson is live in it. If you run overlapping group sessions, set them up on separate Jobs.
Recording and privacy
Are online Lessons recorded?
Yes, you can enable lesson recordings on Bobbin but it does not transcribe Lessons. On the full version, Lessons are transcribed so you can receive the AI generated insights and reports.
How long are recordings kept and is there a charge for storage?
Your lesson recordings will be stored for up to 1 year. They’ll be stored at no additional cost for the first 90 days, after which storage will be charged at £0.10/$0.14 per GB per month. You’ll also be able to access your lesson recordings directly from within TutorCruncher via the relevant lessons.
Do Students and Tutors have to agree to be recorded when they log in?
There's no tickbox or consent screen to complete. If a session is being recorded, Lessonspace's pre-join screen shows a short notice saying so.
Billing
How much does Bobbin cost?
There's no monthly base fee. You pay only for the Lesson hours you use, at £0.65 per hour ($0.90 per hour for US customers). Usage is totalled up and billed monthly in arrears, so a month with no Lessons costs nothing.
What counts as a billable hour?
The length of the live session in the Lesson space, from the moment it starts to the moment it ends. A space that only ever had one person in it isn't billed - a session needs at least two participants to count, so a Tutor opening the room early to set up their resources doesn't cost anything.
How are group Lessons charged?
Lessons with more than four participants in the space are charged at £0.40 per extra participant per hour.
