Zapier

A guide for how to connect Bonsai to Zapier to automate your workflow.

Updated over a week ago

Using Zapier

Zapier is a powerful tool that allows you to automate tasks between multiple online apps, such as Bonsai, QuickBooks, Slack and more!

With Zapier, you can create automated workflows called "Zaps" that connect these apps, streamlining your processes and saving you time with no coding involved.

How Zapier works

Each Zap consists of a Trigger and one or more Actions:

  • Trigger: The action that initiates the automation, and causes an Action to occur.

  • Action: The app where your data is sent automatically based on the Trigger.

Connecting to Zapier on Bonsai

To start, you will need to have a Zapier account. Sign up for free on Zapier's website here. Once you have an account, you're ready to set up integrations with Bonsai.

Within Bonsai, select your profile icon in the bottom lefthand corner > select 'Settings' and navigate to the Integrations & Data page.

Click on the 'Zapier' option to set up your connection between Bonsai and Zapier:

Under the Zapier integration, click "Generate new API key" and copy your new API key:

From here, head over to Zapier to sign into Bonsai. You can either look up 'Bonsai' or connect to our app directly to Bonsai's app page on Zapier.

Use the API key sourced from Bonsai in the previous steps, and paste it into the designated 'API Key' field on Zapier. From here, click on 'Yes, Continue to Bonsai'.

That's it - you're ready to create automations between Zapier and Bonsai!

Sending information from Bonsai

This works great to streamline workflows. There are many ways to use this, all you need to do is find your apps to send your data to.

Here's how it works:

Create the Zap. Ensure that Bonsai is selected as the app under the 'Event' section. Then, use the dropdown menu to select your Trigger event.

The second step will have you confirm that there's an established connection between your Zapier and Bonsai accounts. Click on 'Continue' to move to the next step.

Next, Zapier will prompt you to set up a test trigger. Follow the prompts to select a record and create an associated Action:

Trigger workflows to Bonsai

This works great to send information from other tools to Bonsai. For example, if you're collecting leads via Jotform, Typeform, or Calendly, you can make sure that information automatically lands in your Bonsai Clients or Projects list.

Simply create a zap and select Bonsai as the app. Then, set your desired Action event.
