What is DNC? How can I see if someone has opted out of receiving my messages?

Do Not Contact (DNC) is a crucial feature that helps you respect your contacts' preferences by preventing unwanted communication, ensuring you maintain a professional and respectful communication strategy.

Overview

DNC gives prospects the ability to opt-out of receiving communication via SMS, calls, and email messages.

  • All initial outreach requires a disclaimer in the message including the word "STOP" exactly as written (i.e., in CAPS).

  • If, and only if, you have previously spoken to a person—and they have responded to your messaging—you may disable the disclaimer in your campaign settings or remove it from your broadcast message.

  • If someone replies "STOP" to your text or unsubscribes from your emails, Bonzo will automatically flag that person for the specific communication channel they opted out of, ensuring no further messages are sent via that channel.

  • You can toggle on the DNC button manually for any person in your "Conversations" or the "People" tab.

Navigation

  1. To access your DNC list, navigate to your "People" tab found under the "Data" dropdown.

  2. Previously, the list was a permanent fixture above your search bar. Now it can be found by clicking the "More" dropdown.

    If you would like your DNC list to always be present, click on the 3 vertical dots or breadcrumbs and then on "Pin."

  3. Once in the DNC list you will see a list of anyone who you have manually DNC'd or who has requested DNC from your communications.

    To manually DNC someone, click on their contact record. On the right hand side under their name and icon, click on the three breadcrumbs and then on "DNC" and Bonzo will immediately move them to your DNC list. You will also see a notification at the bottom of their profile that the person has "DNC" enabled.

  4. Previously if someone accidentally opted out of communication you wouldn't be able to call, text, or email them from Bonzo. Now, Bonzo will differentiate between the two separate DNC channels - call & text and email. If a contact opts out or unsubscribes from your email messages, you will still be able to call and text them. When you see an orange caution icon next to a prospect's email or phone number, you know they have opted out of that channel.

    Further, you will see this info. reflected in "Prospect Data" if you click into a contact's record.

    Prospects that opted out or that were manually DNC'd prior to June 12th, 2024 will still appear in your DNC list, but will NOT show a caution icon next to their information. Instead, you will see the message, "Person has DNC enabled," in their Communication view

  5. When sending a broadcast message, Bonzo will not automatically exclude DNC'd prospects from your broadcast list. For example, if a prospect has opted out of emails but not SMS, you can still select them to receive a broadcast SMS message. However, if a prospect has opted out of SMS and you attempt to send them a broadcast SMS message, you will be able to select them, but the message will fail to send due to their DNC status.
