Phone Porting, Should You Do It? And if so, How?

The phone porting process, including expected timelines, expectations, and whether it's a good idea for you!

Updated over a week ago

An integral part of Bonzo's communication infrastructure is mobile outreach in the form of calling, texting, and voicemail drops. It's obviously important to have continuity with your mobile outreach. You may be new to Bonzo, but have a separate phone line and want to port that number into the system. I'm sure you have questions about that process. This article answers those.

What can you port into Bonzo?

  • VOIP phone (also called an internet phone)

  • Cell phone

  • Landline

*We cannot currently able to port an 800 number into Bonzo.

Is a Port right for you?

We only recommend porting over other VOIP lines into Bonzo. Why? Because once you execute the port, that number lives in Bonzo. What does this mean? While you can port out the number if you so choose, the port will limit your number to the functionality of a Bonzo Number.

Essentially, you'll be able to call, text, and leave voicemails from that number—but little else.

This is why we do not under any circumstances recommend you port over a primary cell phone number. Your iPhone will essentially become an iPod with the Bonzo app.

Moreover, the entire ethos of Bonzo is increasing the efficiency of your business so you can feel comfortable relaxing on the beach and not needing to pick up the phone. Our most successful Members love the fact that they can go on a weeks-long vacation and their People never know they're gone—that's the power of automated personalized communication at scale.

What to do when you're wanting to port your number:

The porting process can take 2-4 weeks to complete, depending on the carrier. Again, we do not recommend under any circumstances you port your main number, but if you choose to port a cell number, know traditional carriers (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile) take the longest to approve the port.

Because of this, we recommend choosing a Bonzo number to communicate with new People while your port is finalizing.

Anyone you communicate with with your Bonzo number will always be able to reach you at that number. In fact, once you finalize your port, your Bonzo number will remain active. All conversations started with that Bonzo number will remain under that Bonzo number. This means People you first reach out to with that number will only know you from that number.

Porting FAQ:

  1. Can you port a number out of Bonzo?

    1. Yes! You can port a ported-in number, or a selected Bonzo number (i.e., a number selected when you signed-up for the platform) out of Bonzo.

  2. How long does the process take?

    1. 1-4 weeks; but a first disposition is normally within the first week. Legacy carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) will be on the long end of this timescale.

  3. Are any carriers less efficient than others?

    1. Yes, Verizon always rejects the requests a first time and requires a call.
