Progressive Commission Structure for Orders in USD, GBP, CAD, NZD, and AUD
We’re excited to introduce commission percentage adjustments that create a fairer structure for artists invoicing in USD, GBP, CAD, NZD, and AUD. This new system ensures that as artists grow their businesses, they retain a larger share of their earnings while still benefiting from Book An Artist’s platform.
The structure follows a tiered approach, where different commission rates apply to each portion of the invoice, similar to how tax brackets work. This means that as an invoice amount crosses higher thresholds, the commission percentage decreases—ensuring fairer fees for large projects.
Additionally, artists can continue working with the same clients in future projects while benefiting from lower commission rates over time, making it easier to bring repeat business through the platform.
Important Note:
These commission reductions apply at the order level rather than across multiple projects.
This means that only invoices exceeding $10,000 USD (or equivalent) in total project value with a single client will see the reduced commission rates.
Why a Progressive Commission Structure?
Book An Artist has introduced this system to ease the financial burden on artists, especially for larger projects where material, logistics, and equipment costs can be substantial. By lowering commission percentages at higher tiers, we ensure that artists can cover their operational expenses while still maximizing their profits.
Standard Progressive Commission Rates
For USD, GBP, and CAD Invoices
Invoice Amount | Commission Slabs % | Example on $25,000 |
For the first $0 - $10,000 | 20% | $10,000 x 20% = $2,000 |
Second $10,001 - $15,000 | 15% | $5,000 x 15% = $750 |
Third $15,001 - $20,000 | 10% | $5,000 x 10% = $500 |
After $20,000 | 5% | $5,000 x 5% = $250 |
📌 Example for a $25,000 USD Project
First $10,000 → 20% → $2,000
Next $5,000 → 15% → $750
Next $5,000 → 10% → $500

For GBP Invoices

First £0 - £15,000 | 20% | £15,000 x 20% = £3,000 |
Next £15,001 - £20,000 | 15% | £5,000 x 15% = £750 |
Next £20,001 - £25,000 | 10% | £5,000 x 10% = £500 |
After Above £25,000 | 5% | £15,000 x 5% = £750 |

What If an Artist Wants a Commission-Free Portion for Materials & Equipment?
If an artist prefers to exclude reasonable material and equipment costs from the total value before commission is applied, this can only be done via:
Support Chat
Speaking to a Book An Artist admin
Important Conditions:
The above reduced commission structure will not apply if material and equipment costs are separated.
Instead, Book An Artist will charge a flat 20% commission on the remaining balance after reasonable materials/equipment costs are deducted—just like any other standard project.
The materials and logistics must be reasonable and will be reviewed by our team.
📌 Example Scenario (NZD $50,000 Project):
Total project value: $50,000
Material and logistics costs deducted: $15,000 (approved by admin)
Remaining balance for commission: $35,000
Commission charged: 20% of $35,000 = $7,000
This system ensures that artists are fairly compensated while maintaining transparency.
Final Takeaways
Lower commission on large jobs is designed to help artists cover their material and logistics costs without needing to break them down.
If an artist chooses to exclude material and equipment costs, they must speak to support, and a flat 20% fee will apply on the remaining balance after deducting reasonable expenses.
This system keeps pricing transparent while ensuring that both artists and Book An Artist benefit from high-value projects.
