Progressive Commission Structure (Overview)
We’ve introduced a progressive (tiered) commission structure for invoices in USD, GBP, CAD, NZD, and AUD to make fees fairer as project values increase.
Under this structure, different commission rates apply to different portions of the same invoice, similar to tax brackets. As an invoice crosses higher thresholds, the commission percentage on the additional amount decreases—resulting in a lower effective commission on larger projects.
This structure is designed to support artists on higher-value jobs, where costs such as logistics, access, and equipment can increase, while still allowing artists to retain more of their earnings as they grow.
Important:
Progressive commission applies per invoice, not across multiple projects.
Only invoices exceeding the stated thresholds within a single project benefit from the reduced rates.
Standard painting materials (paint, brushes, rollers, tape, and consumables) are not excluded from commission and must be priced into the job.

Example: $25,000 project
First $10,000 → 20% = $2,000
Next $5,000 → 15% = $750
Next $5,000 → 10% = $500
Remaining $5,000 → 5% = $250
Total commission: $3,500 (14% effective rate)

Materials & Equipment (Clarification)
What is NOT excluded from commission
The following are considered standard business expenses and must be priced into the job:
Paint (all types)
Brushes, rollers, trays
Tape, drop sheets
Normal access equipment like ladders
Usual Travel or lodging
council or parking fee
Normal consumables and tools
Requests to exclude these from commission will be declined.
When materials or equipment MAY be reviewed (exception only)
For projects above AUD $4,000 (you can use google conversion for checking your home currency to AUD conversion), artists may request review of non-standard, job-specific costs, such as:
Scaffold hire
Scissor lift hire
Extra ordinary lodging or travel that puts unusual pressure on a project of that size
Other unusual access or equipment requirements
These costs must be:
Reasonable
Clearly job-specific
Approved by a Book An Artist admin
Approval is not automatic.
Important Rule if You Separate Materials
If you choose to exclude approved materials or equipment from the project value:
The progressive commission structure will not apply
A flat 20% commission will be charged on the remaining balance
Example (AUD $50,000 project)
Total project value: $50,000
Approved equipment deducted: $15,000
Commissionable amount: $35,000
Commission charged: 20% on 35000 = $7,000
Final Takeaways
Progressive commission already rewards larger projects.
Do not separate standard painting, materials or other incidental costs.
Separating materials is optional, exceptional, and removes slab benefits

New Deposit Structure
Deposit Structure only decides how actual cash is disbursed dependant on a few factors. Deposit structure has nothing to do with the above (commission %).
These changes will go live from 16th September, 2024 for all new Offers(i.e Invoices/Quotes), any offers before 16th September, 2024 will not be affected.
New Artist - First 2 Projects
If you are a new artist on the platform who has yet to complete a project on Book An Artist, the full payment will be held and will be released upon project completion for first 2 projects.
Existing Artist
For all project categories, the following table outlines how the deposit is split between BAA Payout and the Artist Payout. Depending on the deposit % requested by the artist, the deposit payment is paid out to the Artist and Book An Artist as per the below table.
This only applies if the Customer chooses to release the deposit. They can also hold these funds on their end.
Note: In all these cases, BAA commission remains 20%, there is no change to that. The table only shows how the payout will change.

(For example: For a Project with a total invoice of $2000, which has been divided as:
Deposit - $800
Remaining payment - $1200
Here in example as you can see the deposit being $800 which is 40% of the total invoice amount($2000).
On comparing to the above table -
40% means that you would be getting 20% of $2000 which is $400
and our commission would be 20% of $2000 which is $400)
For Artists located in all countries excluding (Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany, UAE, USA, Canada) the full amount will be held in escrow and released upon order completion.
