How to Change the Currency for an Invoice using the Mobile app

Bookipi's Multi-Currency feature allows you to create invoices and estimates in your clients' preferred currencies instead of being limited to your company's default currency.

This is ideal for freelancers, contractors, and businesses that work with international clients. By invoicing in your customer's local currency, you can reduce confusion, improve payment accuracy, and streamline global billing.

Benefits of Multi-Currency Invoicing

  • Invoice clients in their preferred currency

  • Support international customers and projects

  • Reduce manual currency conversions

  • Improve payment accuracy during checkout

  • Create invoices and estimates using different currencies as needed

Step 1: Create or Open an Invoice

Create a new invoice or open an existing draft invoice.

Step 2: Scroll to the Others Section

In the invoice editor, scroll down to the Others section.

Step 3: Tap 'Currency'

Tap Currency to open the currency selector.

Step 4: Choose Your Currency

Browse the list of supported currencies and select the currency you would like to use for this invoice.

Step 5: 'Save' Your Invoice

The invoice will automatically update to reflect the selected currency symbol. Click 'Save' to apply the changes and save the invoice.

Pro Feature: Multi-Currency is included with Bookipi Pro and allows you to invoice clients in different currencies on a per-invoice basis.

Important Things to Know

Currency Applies Per Invoice

  • Changing the currency only affects the current invoice.

  • Your company's default currency remains unchanged.

Prices Are Not Automatically Converted

When you change the invoice currency:

  • Item prices remain the same

  • Only the currency symbol and currency code change

For example:

  • USD 100 → EUR 100

  • AUD 500 → GBP 500

Bookipi does not perform exchange-rate calculations or automatic currency conversions.

One Currency Per Invoice

  • Each invoice can only use a single currency.

  • Mixed-currency invoices are not supported.

Currency Locks After Sending

  • You can change the currency while the invoice is still in Draft status.

  • Once any of the following occurs, the currency can no longer be changed:

  1. The invoice is sent

  2. Payment request is created

  3. The invoice is signed

  4. The invoice is partially paid

  5. The invoice is fully paid

This helps ensure financial records remain consistent.

Payments Use the Invoice Currency

When a customer pays an invoice, supported payment gateways will process the payment using the invoice currency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Multi-Currency available on the Free plan?

A: No. Multi-Currency is a paid feature. Free users can see the currency option, but it will be disabled, and an upgrade prompt will appear when they try to access it.

Q: Can I use a different currency for every invoice?

A: Yes. Each invoice can have its own currency.

Q: Will changing the invoice currency change my company's currency?

A: No. Your company's default currency remains unchanged.

Q: Does Bookipi automatically convert exchange rates?

A: No. Bookipi does not perform currency conversions or use live exchange rates. You must manually enter the prices you want displayed on the invoice.

Q: Why didn't my invoice total change after switching currencies?

A: Changing the currency updates the currency symbol and code only. The item prices and totals remain exactly the same.

Q: Can I have multiple currencies on the same invoice?

A: No. Each invoice supports only one currency.

Q: Can I change the currency after sending an invoice?

A: No. Currency becomes locked after an invoice is sent, signed, partially paid, fully paid, or has an active payment request.

Q: Do estimates support Multi-Currency?

A: Yes. The same currency selection functionality is available for estimates.

Q: What happens if I downgrade from a paid plan?

A: Existing invoices that already use a different currency will remain valid. However, you will no longer be able to edit the invoice currency unless you upgrade again.

Q: Will reports combine all currencies?

A: No. Bookipi keeps totals separate by currency to ensure accurate reporting. For example, USD and EUR totals are displayed separately rather than combined into a single total.

Q: Which currencies are supported?

Bookipi supports a wide range of international currencies. The available options can be viewed directly from the Currency selector when creating an invoice or estimate.

Q: What payment gateways support Multi-Currency?

A: Support depends on the payment provider and currency being used. Some payment gateways may have limitations on the currencies they can process.
