How to set the tax on future invoices

Learn how to set the tax on future invoices permanently in Bookipi Invoice Web v2 with our step-by-step guide.

Tax Settings Overview

Our system supports three types of tax configurations: Exclusive, Inclusive, and Deductible. Here's a brief explanation of each:

  • Exclusive Tax: This tax type is added on top of the total amount. For example, if you apply a 10% exclusive tax to a $100 purchase, the final total will be $110.

  • Inclusive Tax: This indicates that tax is already included in the listed price. It’s used for transparency, showing that the item prices shown to customers already account for applicable taxes.

  • Deductible Tax: This tax is subtracted from the total amount. It is commonly used in scenarios where tax is part of the total but needs to be excluded for reporting or settlement purposes.

Step 1: Click on your user icon.

Click on your user icon in the lower left corner of your dashboard.

Step 2: Click ‘Settings’.

Select ‘Settings’ from the drop-down options.

Step 3: Click the ‘Services’ tab.

Select 'Services' to view service-related settings.

Step 4: Edit the default tax.

Click 'Edit' next to Default tax.

Step 5: Customize the tax details.

Enter the Abbreviation for your tax (e.g., GST), set the Tax percentage, and choose whether the tax should be 'Inclusive' (included in the total) or 'Deductible' (subtracted from the total).

(Optional) Add a second tax by enabling the option and filling in the additional fields.

Step 6: Click ‘Save’.

Click 'Save' to confirm and apply your tax settings to invoices.

Your tax is now configured and will be applied to your invoices.

Once you've configured your tax settings in the app, the specified tax will automatically apply to all new invoices created from then on.

Existing invoices will not be updated automatically; tax changes apply only to invoices created after the update.

Common FAQs about how to set the tax on future invoices

Q: Can I apply tax to only some items and leave others tax-free?

A: Yes. When creating or editing an invoice, you can choose whether or not to apply tax to each item. Simply toggle the tax option on or off for each item, depending on your needs.

Q: Will the tax setting sync with my mobile app?

A: Yes, your tax settings will sync across devices if you're logged into the same Bookipi account. Any changes made via the web will be reflected on the mobile app and vice versa.

Q: Can I include tax in the item price instead of showing it separately?

A: Currently, Bookipi shows tax as a separate line under the subtotal by default. There isn’t an option to include tax directly within the item price, but you can manually adjust the item price to include tax if needed.
