What is Alias?
With the Alias feature, a product can share capacity with another product. For example, a kayaking course may use single kayaks that are also rented out separately. When the kayaking course is booked, the single kayaks are automatically blocked, preventing them from being double-booked.
An alias product is a product that uses another product's capacity, like a kayaking course that uses the capacity of single kayaks.
A linked product is a product that the alias product is linked to, like the single kayaks that share their capacity with the kayaking course.
Make a Product an Alias Product
As an admin, go to Products → Products & Experiences and select the product that will become the alias product.
Open the Availability tab and scroll down to the Alias section.
Enable "Make Alias Product".
Select the product that will be the Linked Product (in the example below, the Beginner Course is linked to the Single Kayaks product).
Choose whether "Ignore Opening Hours for Linked Product" should be enabled or disabled.
Click Save in the top-right corner.
Example: Ignore Opening Hours for Linked Product
Example: Ignore Opening Hours for Linked Product
A SUP rental service opens to the public at 10:00 AM.
At 9:00 AM, a SUP Yoga Session (alias product) takes place and uses the SUP boards (linked product) from the rental service for 90 minutes.
For the SUP Yoga Session to be available for booking with a 9:00 AM start time, "Ignore Opening Hours for Linked Product" must be enabled.
How the Products Affect Each Other
Products that share capacity affect each other’s availability. When the alias product is booked, the capacity of the linked product is reduced, and vice versa.
Note! Avoid creating chains of linked products. A product that is already linked to an alias product should not itself be set up as an alias product. Alias only checks availability one level away. For more information on how to set up Alias correctly, read more here.
