Overview

PayPal accounts are either Personal or Business.

If you have a PayPal Personal account, you'll need to ensure you upgrade your account to a business account to integrate PayPal with your Bookwhen account.

If you have a PayPal Business account, you can accept payments by credit card without your customers having a PayPal account. The Business accounts are either Website Payments Standard (free) or Website Payments Pro (you must pay a subscription). Either will work.

Even with Guest Checkout activated on your PayPal account, some customers may still be prompted to sign up to PayPal based on their personal history.

This is beyond our control, as it depends on PayPal's restrictions to prevent excessive Guest Checkouts. If this becomes problematic, you may consider switching to Stripe, which offers lower fees and allows card-only purchases without the need for accounts.

Upgrading a PayPal Personal Account to a Business or Premier Account

To upgrade your current PayPal Personal Account to a Business or Premier Account:

  4. If you have selected a Business Account, you will be asked to enter your Business Information and choose Submit.

  5. Once you've done this, please make sure you Reuthenticate your PayPal connection.
